Q and A with 2015 Akron Commit: Adam McDonough (Lakota East HS)

Adam McDonough, 3B, Lakota East HS, Class of 2015

PBR: Why did you choose Akron?

McDonough: It is a rising school in the MAC. The facilities are fantastic, the campus is beautiful and they have the major I wanted. They have a great experienced coaching staff and reached the conference championship game this year.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

McDonough: Eastern Illinois. Also had contact with Xavier, Wright State and Toledo.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you and how did your relationship develop?

McDonough: Coach Worth came to watch me play in a weeknight game at the Flash Complex and we talked multiple times thereafter. Coach Rembielak first saw me play at the 18U Dinger Wood Bat World Series.

PBR: You recently participated in PBR’s Top Prospects Games.  How did your performance help you in the recruiting process?

McDonough: To play in front of 100 scouts and coaches was a great experience and the exposure it gave me allowed schools to follow me this past summer.

PBR: How does it feel to be a part of a Division 1 baseball program?

McDonough: It feels unbelievable. Another goal accomplished.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?
McDonough: Team Combat/Cincinnati Riverbats. My most memorable experience this summer was playing at the new LakePointe Complex at Perfect Game in Georgia..

PBR:  What person has the great impact on your baseball career and why?

McDonough: My parents. They soft toss or throw bp in the batting cage in our backyard every day. This keeps my eyes focused, hands fast and my mechanics right on path. Also Lakota East Head Coach Ray Hamilton, Hitting Coach John Sullivan and Fielding Coach Jeff Keith.

PBR: What were your stats this spring season at Lakota East?

McDonough:  Avg:.489, OBP:.583, Runs: 26,  Hits: 44,  2B: 17,  3B: 3  HR: 2,  RBI: 35

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced in Ohio?
McDonough: Rodney Hutchison (North Carolina recruit) and outside Ohio: John Wesley Ray (Ole Miss recruit)
