Q and A with 2015 Wittenberg Commit: Loie Greenwood (Gahanna Lincoln HS)

Loie Greenwood, INF, Gahanna Lincoln HS, Class of 2015

PBR: Why did you choose Wittenberg?

Greenwood: It has always been appealing to me, and after my recent visit I fell in love with the campus, the students, the tradition, and the baseball program. Education is very important to me and this seemed to be the place for me.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Greenwood: A few other schools but none that truly stood out to me.

PBR:  Where did the coaches first see you compete and how did your relationship develop with the rest of the coaching staff?

Greenwood: The staff first saw me at a summer ball game in Springboro in June, and from then on I have made a fantastic connection with Coach Lewis and the rest of the staff. The ease in which I can speak with Coach Lewis and the staff is a huge reason I decided on Wittenberg.

PBR: What role does the coaching staff expect you to play during your first year on campus?

Greenwood: I believe they will want my complete and total effort on the field and in the classroom, and I think they will want me to be prepared to see time as a freshman.

PBR: Wittenberg is very close to home.  How much of a role did distance play in your decision?

Greenwood: I have a very close relationship with my mom, and being able to have her down often for games and visits will be awesome. Also, the general location of Springfield, OH is great for internships and close to where many of my current friends will be attending college.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Greenwood: I believe my summer ball coach, Brian Hull. He has helped teach me how to play the game correctly, intelligently and respectfully and his coaching has translated into my life as well.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most exciting experience playing summer ball?

Greenwood: I play under Brian Hull and Jason Swinehart for the Ohio Warhawks Baseball Club. My most exciting experience would have to be when a good friend and pitcher only, Cole Gibson, got to pinch hit and absolutely crushed a ball to the fence for a stand up triple.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher you have faced in Ohio?

Greenwood: Personally, Bloom Carroll's Sam Bordner. Overall, an extremely solid pitcher. He has some crazy zip and a nice slider. I wish him luck at Louisville.
