The Buzz: Baran (PA) Decommits While Murray (OH) Receives Another Offer

While warm-weather states have been playing for a few weeks, seasons are continuing to get underway across the country. The National High School Invitational is next week in Cary, NC and features 16 of the nation’s top high schools. In its third year, the NHSI has proven to be the top high school tournament and pits some of the best teams and players against each other. Swarms of scouts will be at the USA Baseball National Training Complex to see the draft prospects in attendance. I’ll have more on the event and what to watch for early next week.

Before diving into NHSI coverage, I’m heading to Asheville, NC, this weekend to see LHP Alex Destino (North Buncombe HS, NC) vs. 1B Braxton Davidson (Roberson HS, NC). It’s a left-on-left matchup, which puts Destino at an advantage, but I imagine plenty of scouts will be out to see how both players respond. Davidson, a North Carolina recruit with some of the best power in the country, was ranked No. 19 on my National Top 50 back in November while Destino checked in at No. 35. A South Carolina recruit, he has a strong frame and can reach the low 90s with an easy delivery. He has good feel for his secondary stuff and can handle the bat some as well.
