Top 2015 Prospects from Ohio's Last Showcase of the Winter

By Chris Valentine and Cory Valentine
PBR Ohio Scouting Director and Assistant Director

Today, we break down the top Class of 2015 prospects from PBR Ohio's Last Showcase of the Winter at Owens Community College in Northwest Ohio. Later this week, we will break down the Best of the Rest from the Class of 2015 for this event.

1. Nate Suntken, RHP, Wauseon,
5-foot-11, 190-pound right-handed pitcher with a thick, solid build. He throws with above average arm speed through a high ¾ arm slot. At this point, he shows more pitchability than his older brother Ty Suntken (who's fastball sat 87-88 mph at the same event). His fastball sits 81-83 mph with run. It doesn’t require much effort. His curveball shows late breaking 11/5 movement at 70-72 mph. It will be an effective out pitch for him. His changeup is thrown near fastball arm speed at 77-79 mph with some sink to it.

2. Pavin Parks, SS, Louisville HS
The 5-foot-11, 165-pound infielder reached a top velocity of 79 mph with short arm action and a quick transfer. He consistently plays through the baseball and shows good range. Showed quick, fluid actions in the infield. At the plate, the left-handed hitter uses a short stride with a level path to the ball. He shows some quickness into the zone (81 mph exit velocity). More of a line drive bat than a power guy at this point. Still needs to improve his foot speed as he ran a 7.92 on a slow track.

3. Adam Wolf, LHP, Edison HS
Possess a 6-foot-4, 185-pound projectable frame. The big southpaw is full of raw talent. He throws from a high ¾ arm slot with above average arm speed. He showed an 81-85 mph fastball with good cutting action to it. With improved use of his lower half, he will easily see a jump in his velocity. His curveball shows gradual 1/7 break at 66-67 mph while his changeup shows some fade at 73-74 mph. He could emerge as one of the top pitching prospects in his class with improved use of his lower half.

4. Cole Gibson, RHP, Gahanna Lincoln HS is another big projectable arm to follow. The 6-foot-6, 220-pound righty is still learning how to use his body. With improvements to the use of his lower half, he could emerge as one of the top pitching prospects in his class. Still, he generates an 80-83 mph fastball with some arm side run. His curveball is soft at 62-65 mph with gradual 11/5 break. He also showed a slurvey type breaking ball at 64-65 mph. His changeup, which fluctuates between 66-70 mph, has room for growth. He slows his arm down and lacks command.

5. Adam Purdy, OF, Elida HS
Possess a projectable 6-foot-2, 160-pound frame.  In the outfield, he shows good, athletic actions and plays through the ball. He uses long arm action through a high ¾ arm slot while reaching a top velocity of 81 mph. He registered an 7.31 60-yard dash on a slow surface. At the plate, he displays rotational mechanics with a short stride and a short, level path to the ball. As he gets physically stronger, he should add more power to his swing.

6. Greg Gilliland, RHP, Coldwater HS
6-foot-4, 198-pound right-handed pitching prospect. He shows above average arm speed through a high ¾ arm slot. His delivery doesn’t require much effort as he generates an 80-82 mph fastball. His breaking ball has slurvey type action at 68-72 mph while his changeup is thrown near fastball arm speed and shows decent fade at 63-65 mph.

7. Bradley Hull, IF, Gahanna Lincoln HS
5-foot-9, 140-pound middle infield prospect with thin, athletic build. Likely projects as second baseman at this stage, but with added arm strength, could play both middle spots. Shows fluid actions. Quick transfer and exchange. Throws well from all angles while showing good range. Hits from the right-side. Contact type hitter that needs to get physically stronger for the next level. Shows good bat control. Starts with open stance. Needs to consistently square front side.
