Western Ohio Winter Showcase

We would like to thank all who participated in PBR Ohio’s Western Ohio Winter Showcase. This was a great opportunity for 2015, '16, '17 and '18 prospects to be put on college radars. Many players impressed during their individual workouts at the showcase. Below we have the complete statistical results from the event as well as the top performers across various different categories.

In the coming weeks, we will be adding and updating profiles for each of the players in attendance, including complete analysis and video.

Western Ohio Winter Showcase: Class of 2018 Evaluations

Thomas Baker, RHP, Elgin, 2018
TOP POSITION PLAYER:
Jaret Montenery, 2B/OF, Spencerville, 2018 & Derek Coverstone, 2B/OF, Anna, 2018

Alex Lehmkuhl, 2B/OF, Lima Central Catholic, 2018
Scouting Report: 5-foot-8, 135-pound projectable frame. From the infield he projects as a second base type. Shows good range and throws from a short, ¾ slot with 66 mph arm strength across the diamond. Right-handed hitter that starts even with good balance. Short compact swing with 75 mph exit velocity and ran a 5.03 down the line.

Braden Theis, C, Anthony Wayne, 2018
Scouting Report: 5-foot-11, 158-pound athletic build. From behind the plate he receives it well and shows good arm strength for his age. His pop times ranged between 2.19-2.30 with 72 mph velocity home to second. Right-handed hitter that starts his hands high with little movement. Shows some strength in his swing for his age and uses the right side well. Registered a top exit velocity of 79 mph and ran 4.69 home to first.

Bryce Ray, SS/3B, Bellevue, 2018
Scouting Report: 6-foot, 190-pound solid build. In the infield he shows his athleticism fielding the ball with a quick exchange. Throws from a short, high-¾ slot with 73 mph arm strength. Right-handed hitter that starts slightly closed. Short, compact swing with strength in his swing while showcasing some power. Registered top exit velocity of 85 mph and ran 4.53 home to first.

Chayten Overholt, 2B/OF, Lincolnview, 2018
Scouting Report: 5-foot-4, 115-pound skinny frame. From the infield he has a clean exchange for his age and fields the ball into his body. Throws from a short slot with 65 mph arm strength across the diamond. Right-handed hitter that starts closed. Has good rhythm and good bat path but need to finish his swing. Registered top exit velocity of 62 mph and ran a 4.88 home to first.

Derek Coverstone, 2B/OF, Anna, 2018
Scouting Report: 5-foot-7, 141-pound athletic build. From the infield he projects as a second base type. He shows good range, soft hands, and throws from a ¾ slot with 68 mph arm strength across the diamond. Speed is the strength of Derek’s game. Switch-hitter that I believe is slightly better from the left side. From the left side he starts closed and has a good path with 83 mph exit velocity. From the right side has no stride with good balance. High hands with exit velocity of 80 mph. Ran a showcase best 4.19 home to first.

Gunner Smith, 3B/1B, Newport Central Catholic, 2018
Scouting Report: 5-foot-11, 180-pound athletic build. From third base he has decent range for his age and solid exchange with 72 mph arm strength across the diamond. At first he shows good footwork around the bag with soft hands. Right-handed hitter that starts open and gets to even. Stands tall and shows some strength and power in his swing especially for his age. Registered top exit velocity of 78 mph and ran 5.18 home-to-first.

Jaret Montenery, 2B/OF, Spencerville, 2018
Scouting Report: 5-foot-8, 150-pound athletic build for his age. From the outfield he has good arm action and shows way above average arm strength for his age at 87 mph. In the infield he shows good range and fields the ball into his body. Throws from a high-¾ slot with 80 mph arm strength. Switch hitter that in my opinion is better from the left side. From the left he has a good balance set up. Flat path with decent bat speed at 74 mph exit velocity. From the right side he has a short stride and uses a short, compact swing. Also, registered top exit velocity of 74 mph and ran 4.41 down the line from the left side.

Kiowa Looney, RHP/SS, West Holmes, 2018
Scouting Report: 5-foot-9, 200-pound short, stocky build. On the mound the righty has a simple, compact delivery that he is able to repeat. Throws from a low-¾ slot  with fastball sitting 72-77 mph with good downward arm-side run. Showcased a breaking ball with 11/5 break at 63 mph that needs more consistency.

Reid Vansky, C/2B, Elgin, 2018
Scouting Report: 5-foot-5, 155-pound solid, stocky build. From behind the dish he has a good exchange and throws from a high-¾ slot. Pop times ranged between 2.36-2.37 and showed 64 mph arm strength home to second. Right-handed hitter that starts slightly closed. Has short, compact swing with a simple approach. Registered top exit velocity of 68 mph and ran a 5.47 home to first.

Spencer Rader, SS/RHP, Bowling Green, 2018
Scouting Report: 6-foot, 170-pound solid build. From the infield he fields the ball into his body with a quick exchange and opens up a little on his throw. Throws from high-¾ slot with 72 mph arm strength across the diamond. Right-handed hitter that starts slightly closed with a stiff lower ½. Swing gets in and out of the zone with top exit velocity of 82 mph and ran a 4.97 home to first.

Thomas Baker, RHP, Elgin, 2018

He throws from a short, high-¾ slot with his fastball sitting 73-75 mph with arm-side run. Shows decent spin on his breaking ball with 11/5 break at 60-63 mph. Slows down a little on his changeup at 58-61 mph.
