Oklahoma Class of 2019: Updated Rankings

With the spring and summer having passed by since the last update to the Oklahoma 2019 rankings, there has been quite a bit of shuffling.

Top 3

SS/RHP Bryce Osmond (Jenks HS) tops the list. The Oklahoma State recruit is arguably the best all around athlete in the class. It is easy to project him as a standout two-way player for the Cowboys. Osmond is on his way to becoming a true five-tool player, already with elite arm strength, above average speed (6.8 60), excellent range, consistent hands, and developing power from a 6-foot-3, 175-pound frame. On the mound, the right-hander pitches in the upper 80s and touches 90 with a loose and easy arm action.

3B/RHP  Wade Elliott (Deer Creek HS) a Missouri recruit, fills the second spot. Though Elliott, a 6-foot-1, 215-pound frame packed with strength, can get on the mound and throw strikes with an 83-84 fastball while mixing in a breaking ball and changeup, he really shines as a position player. Defensively, Elliott moves with excellent footwork and shows soft, reliable, elite hands. He projects as a third baseman, but is athletic enough for shortstop as well. Offensively, the right-handed hitter displays  fast hands, strength (99 mph exit velo), and a knack for finding the barrel.

RHP/UT Kale Davis (Westmoore HS) recently committed to Oklahoma State and is athletic enough to play multiple position at the high school level. However, his bright future is on the mound. The 6-foot-4, 210-pound right-hander features a fastball in the high 80s with a knee-buckling curveball that he can throw in most counts. His stock is on the rise after outstanding performances at both the PBR Future Games and Area Code Underclass Games

The Risers

During the spring and early summer, a number of prospects have shown they deserved to move up in the rankings. While many made a jump, a few in particular took their game to the next level.

SS Braylen Wimmer (Yukon HS) Up 42 spots, the biggest riser in class made a big jump with the addition of some strength. Always a mechanically sound hitter and infielder, Wimmer improved every one of his measurables in a big way throughout the summer. Still only 160 pounds in a 6-foot-2 frame, the lanky shortstop will likely continue to rise as he puts on muscle.

OF Sam Thompson (Owasso HS) was always an electric athlete with elite speed and arm strength, but the left-handed hitter found his stroke this summer and performed on the biggest stages, including the PBR Future Games. Already rising 24 spots, look for Thompson to continue to climb as he continues to grow as a hitter.  

RHP Brandon Eropkin (Shawnee HS) spent last spring as a role player for powerhouse Shawnee, but showed late this summer that he has a bright future as well. With a strong frame, Eropkin showed well above average arm strength and command with a developing swing-and-miss breaking ball, bumping him 25 spots in the rankings.

Notable Newcomers

Previously under the radar, a few players have popped up in a big way. Below are a few of the notables.

Our first look at SS Gage Gaunt (Clinton) came at the end of the summer at the High Plains Shootout, and Gaunt’s performance was impressive. So impressive that he committed to Oklahoma State shortly after. With very few holes in his game at all, the quick-twitch athlete’s calling card seems to be his steady glove work as he made every play look easy.

LHP Cole Miller (Stillwater) is an athletic left-hander who is putting on velo quickly. Miller showed very well at the High Plains Shootout, and looks poised to have a big spring.

LHP Derek Bridges (Duncan) is a projectable left-hander that pitches off deception, throwing from a low-3/4 slot. Bridges baffled hitters all summer, rarely getting hit hard. He is a prospect to keep an eye on as he continues to add velo and develop his secondary stuff.  

RHP/SS Dakota Ward (Yukon) has an athletic arm with a mid-80s fastball that showed well at the PBR OK Underclass Games. Ward will sure be a factor on both sides of the ball this spring.
