PBR OK strives to be the most comprehensive source of player information across the state. The Prep Baseball Report is the No. 1 resource for high school baseball in each state we cover through our variety of events, boots-on-the-ground scouting staff, daily coverage, and multimedia platforms. Our multimedia platforms and events work in tandem, ultimately creating the most powerful source of high school baseball promotion in each state. While other organizations take a national approach, our goal is to become the authoritative voice on the ground level of each state.

Today, we talk 2019 OF Sam Thompson from Owasso High School about his recent commitment to Texas Christian.

Scouting Report

8-3-17

The athletic and physical, 6-foot, 180-pound outfielder emerged on the workout day as a player to follow as he ran a 6.67 60-yard dash, threw 89 mph from the outfield, and had an exit velocity of 92 mph from the left side. At the plate, Thompson shows strength through the zone, and utilizes a short stride from a slightly crouched, balanced stance. His hands calmly load back after resting on his shoulder to start, and work fast through the zone on an uphill plane. His proportionally defined strength plays at the plate with some pull side power present. In the outfield, he bounces around with a twitchy first step that allows him to track down balls more easily. Thompson is advanced physically, and should be able to step into a lineup at the next level fairly quickly. Plus, coming from national power, Owasso High School, you can count on him being prepared to play the game the right way.

Q&A With Sam Thompson

PBR OK:You committed soon after participating in this year’s PBR Future Games for Team OK/KS, describe your experience at that event.

Thompson: It was a great event with an unbelievable amount of scouts. Definitely something that helped with my recruitment process.

PBR OK: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it as expected?

Thompson: I had low expectations for my recruiting this summer. Then, it just kind of blew up. I was overwhelmed with all the college attention at first, but quickly learned to enjoy it.

PBR OK: What do you like most about the college you committed to, and what were the key factors in making your decision?

Thompson: I fell in love with the philosophies of the coaching staff at TCU. They have an extremely aggressive offense which fits directly into who I am as a player. Also, as I stepped on campus I felt at home. It was just a different atmosphere than the other schools I visited. So when I knew, I knew.

PBR OK: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?

Thompson: Not at all, my parents had my back no matter where I went. They want me to reach my full potential regardless of how far away the school was.

PBR OK: What other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision?

Thompson: Oklahoma, Arizona, and Tennessee.

PBR OK: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?

Thompson: Keep pushing. I got little to no recruitment attention until this summer. Play hard and it will happen faster than you know.

PBR OK: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

Thompson: Hitting for the cycle at UTSA with a grand slam.

Thompson: Preview your high school season for us. How do you feel your team will be?What are your expectations and goals?

Thompson: We should be #1 in the state. The State Championship is our only goal this year.

PBR OK: Where do you play in the summer? And what has been your most memorable experience with them?

Thompson: I play with the Oklahoma Fuel. The most memorable experience was in Atlanta in the Perfect Game championships, and beating Phenom Signature (#2 team in the country) to get into bracket play.
