On the Hunt: Jupiter Day 2 Notebook

Day Two of the World Wood Bat Championship saw underclassmen commits proving why they are some of the best, and uncommitted players stepping up and capturing the attention of recruiters.  Four uncommitted guys, especially, stood out on the day including 2018 1B
Brandon Hylton (Watchung Hills Regional HS, NJ) of Team Northeast, 2018 SS Mateo Gil  (Timber Creek HS, TX) of Marlins Scout Team, 2019 Brennan Milone SS/RHP (Woodstock HS, GA) of Georgia PG Texas Orange, and 2018 OF Brad Burckel (Lindale HS, TX) of the Houston Banditos.  Hylton spent the beginning of the summer growing into his 6-foot-5, 215-pound frame after a large growth spurt, and continued to have recruiting coordinators scrambling for information as he went 2-for-3 with hard hit singles.  The long and lanky Hylton keeps his barrel in the hitting zone for a long time, and the ball jumps off his bat to all fields.  Matteo Gil showed off quick twitch, athletic movements at shortstop along with a strong throwing arm.  He ranged to both sides with grace, and has a nice set-up at the plate with a short, line drive stroke.  Brennan Milone went 2-for-3 with a walk over two games with two doubles.  The 6-foot, 170-pounder showed surprising pop from a maturing frame with a short, quick stroke aided by a medium sized leg kick to garner power.  Brad Burckel caused havoc on the base paths while going 2-for-4 in the Banditos 3-2 victory.  Burckel stole two bases, and showed impressive savvy by initiating an obstruction call against an opposing fielder.  The left-handed hitter had impressive home-to-first times (4.17, 4.19), and shows signs of being a pesky leadoff hitter for some lucky school.
