Ontario Spotlight Game: Toronto Mets 18U vs Ontario Blue Jays 18U

Pickering – Mid-week matchup saw the Toronto Mets 18U playing against the Ontario Blue Jays 18U team at Hermitage Park in Pickering. This game featured both teams coming in on winning streaks, and a handful of uncommitted players with tools from the 2017 grad class.

Dondrae Bremner, 2017 grad and Cincinnati commit led the way for the Mets getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. He finished 2 for 2, drawing a walk and a home run he hit to right-field in the fourth inning to put the Mets on top 3-2.

The Mets added to their lead in the fifth, scoring five runs with uncommitted 2018 Tyler Black providing the big hit with a bases loaded triple.

Liam Hicks, an uncommitted left-handed hitting 2017 grad had the other big hit for the Mets, a 2 run double in the sixth.

The Ontario Blue Jays started left-hander Nick Fraser on the mound. The young lefty worked quick and went at hitters, showing ability to keep the ball on the ground. Three relievers followed Fraser, with 2017 LSU-Eunice JC commit Nathan Holmes finishing the game, striking out the side.

For the Mets, Uncommitted 2017 RHP Kyle Smyth, who recently de-committed from Charleston WV, started the game for the Mets allowing 2 runs, 4 hits, 2 BB and 2 K through 4 1/3 innings on 65 pitches. The 6-foot-6 right-hander attacked with his fastball and was downhill, getting on top of hitters.

Tyler Roberts, a Lake Michigan Junior College commit, and Devon Robb, uncommitted 2017 graduate, combined for 3 2/3 innings of no hit ball. Roberts finished with two walks and three K’s, while Robb struck out five, while walking three.

OBJ mounted a rally in the ninth, pushing across 4 runs as Tony Zhang drove in one with a double, while Tyler Silva hit a 2 run double. Rashad Collymore reached base in all four plate appearances while stealing two bases. The final score was 13-6, Mets.
