Top 12 Stories for The Year 2014

Although PBR Ontario started up just three months ago Chris Kemlo, PBR Ontario Director of Scouting, looks back at the year in review and put together a list of the top stories for 2014.

To start off the list, Chris chose a long running piece that has provided players and parents with valuable knowledge when it comes to recruiting.

To follow that up we looked at "The Recruiting Trail" which updates where all the prospects across the province have been visiting, who they are getting attention from, and who they have committed to.

Next up Chris chose to look two outstanding prospects who lead the 2017 class as the two top prospects in Canada. When watching them on the field, they could be called the "Hall and Davis Show"

After that we looked at how talented the 2016 catching class is as well as the Toronto Mets 17U winning the NABF World Series

Then we looked at how the Fieldhouse Pirates are leading the way when it comes to recruits, as well as the release of the Class of 2016 and 2015 rankings.

After that we looked at the Ontario players that cracked PBR's top 100.

Now up is a piece on the the Tournament 12 All-Ontario team.

Each day we will reveal the next story on the list. A hint for the next story are the words "First Showcase".

A rundown of the stories: Note: We will be conducting a Twitter contest to vote on the top 12 stories for 2014 once the 12 stories have been posted.

Tournament 12 All-Ontario Team

For the past two years, Hall of Famer Roberto Alomar has put his time and effort back into Baseball Canada by hosting and taking on the role as commissioner for Tournament 12. This year was extra special as it marked the first major scouting event for myself and PBR Ontario, compiling the best talent across the whole country under the roof of the Rogers Centre.

With the amount of talent Ontario has to offer, players of all high school ages were separated over three teams, with one being labeled as the Future’s Team, which consisted mostly of 2016 and 2017 prospects.

After the four day event, we at PBR Ontario compiled stats and reports, and came up with an All Ontario Tournament 12 Team. Two of the easiest selections were the youngest players who made the team, Adam Hall and Cooper Davis. Both players from the 2017 class caught the attention of college recruiters and pro scouts, leaving everyone looking forward to what could possibly be.

The MVP of the tournament, 2015 outfielder from the Toronto Mets Eric Senior, who is still uncommitted. Senior put on a hitting display, finishing with an average of .529 with three extra base hits and playing a stellar outfield showing off his 6.80 speed.

From a pitching side, 2015 right-handed pitcher Michael Brettell and 2016 righty Nick Virdo, dominated the tournament by leading the way as neither allowed an unearned run in each of their two appearances. Both tall, lean righties, showed strong fastball command, while complementing their fastballs with quality breaking balls.

Other notables on the All Ontario Team were: Texas Tech commit Josh Naylor, uncommitted 2015’s Tristan Pompey and Tony Hrynkiw, and Indiana State signee Tyler Whitbread.

PBR looks forward to attending next years event and helping promote Canada’s top talent.
