PBR Spotlight Game: Toronto Mets 18u vs London Badgers 18u

OSHAWA- The sun was shinning on a beautiful Victoria Day long weekend at one of the nicest places to watch a ball game, as the Toronto Mets 18U faced the London Badgers 18U at Kinsmen Stadium. The Mets swept the doubleheader 2-1 and 7-5.

Game one saw RHP Bryson MacLean start for the Mets and LHP Travis Keys for the Badgers.

Keys walked the leadoff batter INF Jaiden Hill, but quickly picked him off with a very deceptive move to 1st base, his first of two pickoffs on the day. INF Jesse Elliot took a fastball to left field for a base hit and scored on OF Eric Senior’s RBI single to put the Mets up 1-0 after one.

Hill lined a 1-out double to the gap in left-centrefield and scored on Senior’s second hit and RBI of the game. After giving up 5 hits through 3 innings, Key settled into a groove and got some help from his defense that kept the Mets from stretching their lead.

MacLean retired the first 9 batters he faced before giving up a leadoff single in the 4th. He scattered 4 hits in his 6+ innings of work. He got into a bit of a jam trying to close out the game in the 7th when he lead the inning off with a hit batter and then a double by INF Alex Lamont.

RHP Tyler Dobie came in relief and gave up an RBI single to OF Shane Barker, but shut the door after that and picked up the save.

Game two had a little bit more offence and was a seesaw battle back and forth.

Mets LHP Nathan Egert struggled out of the gate by walking the first two batters and OF Jacob Mansfield lined an RBI double to centrefield and the Badgers lead 2-0 after the 1st.

Mets RHP Henry Dennis came in relief in the 3rd.

Mansfield lined his second double in as many at-bats to lead off the inning and scored later on an error. SS Evan Wilcox bounced an infield single for an RBI and a 4-0 Badgers lead. But, the Mets began clawing back into the game.

Toronto cut the lead in half in the 3rd thanks to back-to-back RBI singles from C Andrew Yerzy and OF Wyatt Larmand.

The Mets tied the game in the 4th off a Dobie 2-run double that was lined to leftfield.

The Badgers took the lead again in the 5th from INF Daniel Litchy’s RBI single that made it 6-5.

In the Mets half of the 5th, Senior showed off his speed and lined a 2-run triple to right field to put his team ahead for good.

RHP Kristian Webb came on in the 6th to pitch the final 2 innings striking out 3 and picking up the save.
