We would like to thank all who participated in PBR Ontario’s Toronto Elie Prospect Showcase. This was a great opportunity for the class of 2015, '16, '17, and '18 prospects to be put on college radars.

Individual Evaluations for the Class of 2016


Aiden Pleterski, C/RHP, 2016

5-foot-8, 140-pounds average build. Defensively from behind the plate, had a quick exchange with a pop time of 2.26 and 72 mph arm strength from home-to-second. Offensively, hits from left side with slightly closed stance. Picks up front foot and puts back down. Exit velocity was 71 mph, 40 time was 5.30. On the mound, Pleterski worked with good rhythm and timing over the rubber. Arm slot was a clean 3/4, landing was on-time with some arm speed. Fastball sat between 72-75 mph, threw for strikes. Curveball showed good break with 11/5 shape at 59-64 mph. Changeup had arm side fade when maintained his arm-speed, babied it at times, was 66-67 mph.

Alex Guy, C, 2016

5-foot-8, 185-pound stocky frame with room for added development. Behind the plate, 2.28 best pop time. Threw from ¾ slot, direction was good towards bag, velocity from home-to-second was 66 mph. At the plate, hits from even stance with slight knee bend. Leg kick to load with short swing on ball. Exit velocity was 76 mph, 40 time was 5.70.

Ben Tiernan, RHP, 2016

5-foot-11, 150-pounds with room to add strength to frame. Fastball was 77-78 range, has been up to 82 mph in the past, more in tank. Worked downhill pounding the strike zone. Curveball showed proper rotation with 11/5 action to it, sat 62-66 mph. Maintained arm speed on changeup, was mostly straight, down in the zone at 68 mph. 

Chase Cornelisse, OF, 2016

6-foot-2, 190-pound athletic frame with room for added strength gains. Quick twitch actions in the outfield. Worked through the ball well with clean transfer. Arm showed quickness with top outfield velocity of the day at 83 mph. At the plate, hits from a balanced stance, small leg kick to load, showed level bat path with some bat speed. Hands were quick to contact, more in legs to be had. Exit velocity was 88 mph, 40 time was 5.07.

Christopher Yoannou, SS/2B, 2016

5-foot-10, 160-pound athletic build with current strength. Defensively, showed agile lower half that moves well laterally. Showed proper actions, hands can soften up, projects as second baseman although arm plays from shortstop with ¾ slot. Top velocity of 80 mph across the diamond with online carry. Good aggressiveness about him. At the plate, starts square with small bend at knees. Hands up in good position to hit. Small tap to load. Hands work with some strength and quickness to contact. Exit velocity was 83 mph and top 40 time of the event at 4.82.

Elliott Curtis, SS/3B, 2016

5-foot-11, 175-pound athletic frame with room to add strength. Defensively showed good actions on the infield. Bounce in lower half, good first step, live body with clean actions. Hands were soft and confident, arm played with life and carry at 85 mph, good body control. At the plate, hits in even stance with quiet actions from the left side. Generates good bat speed with a level swing. Hard contact with barrel control, good extension through zone with upright finish. Exit velocity was 81 mph and 40 time at 5.10. Good looking prospect from 2016 class.

Ethan Hunt, SS/2B, 2016

5-foot-10, 165-pound athletic build. Defensively, can play all over the infield, projects as second or third baseman. Arm was 80 mph across infield with some effort involved. Proper actions, fielded ball in middle of body, worked from high-¾ arm slot. Showed smooth actions going to his right. At the plate, keeps simple approach. Starts hands back with small stride and load. Foot down in time to hit. Hands work with some quickness, better when stayed up the middle. Exit velocity was 81 mph while Hunt ran the 40 in 5.28.

Jackson Toms, RHP, 2016

6-foot-2, 185-pound well-proportioned frame with chance for some physicality. Arm path is down with some length after separation, works from ¾ arm slot with some head movement at times causing to get on side of ball. Finishes flat and online. Fastball worked between 75-78 mph, tendency to be up in zone but has height and levers to work downhill. Curveball thrown for strikes with some good downward spin with 11/5 shape, 60-61 mph. Maintained arm speed and action on change, showed some cut action at 68-71 mph.

Joe Tevlin, C, 2016

6-foot, 185-pound athletic frame. Moved well behind the plate with agile lower half. Quick feet and transfer led to 1.97 pop time. Arm was high-¾ with online carry, velocity from the crouch was 76 mph. At the plate, Tevlin has wide base with short load. Generates good bat speed to contact with an uphill finish. Hands work well with some quickness. Exit velocity was 88 mph and 40 time was 5.43.

Jonathan Thibodeau, C, 2016

5-foot-10, 190-pound frame with strong base. Behind the plate, Thibodeau kept a simple, clean exchange into his low-¾ arm slot. Pop time was 2.18 with velocity of 74 from home-to-second. Needs to stay on top with arm as elbow would get low at times. Offensively, hits with a wide stance with some bat movement. More in swing with use of backside. Power and strength is there. Slight hitch with hands on load. Exit velocity was 85 mph while 40 time was 5.27.

Julian Tymochko, 1B, 2016

5-foot-11, 183-pound strong build with room for added development. Defensively, showed real smooth footwork around the bag when receiving from infielders. Bounced off bag with live lower half, top velocity was an accurate 75 mph. At the plate, starts with front side closed off. Rocking load to trigger, good extension through contact with some bat speed and strength. Exit velocity was 85 mph and 40 time was 5.38.

Keegan Warner, SS, 2016

5-foot-11, 170-pound strong, athletic build. Hands worked well, good transfer to ¾ slot that was 79 mph across infield. Athletic actions on the defensive side, lower half had some bounce. Offensively, closed off stance with small load and stride. Slight uppercut in swing, exit velocity was 81 mph showing strength and 40 time was 5.32. Warner is a 2016 with some good actions and athleticism.

Kyle Perrett, RHP, 2016

5-foot-9, 145-pounds. Quick tempo to delivery. Arm action is clean with a high-¾ arm slot. Gets the ball and goes. Fastball was 75-78 mph with some cut action to it, commanded it for strikes. Curveball had good tilt with some bite, spin was tight, 64-68 mph. Maintained arm speed on changeup, little bit of cut to glove side, deceptive pitch for Perrett.

Lennon Richards, C, 2016

5-foot-5, 120-pound frame. Defensively behind the plate, was 2.19 with agile lower half and clean actions. Arm had some whip and life as velocity from home-to-second was 65 mph. Offensively, feet are wide with knees slightly bent. Hands are up with a bat waggle. Creates good rhythm with a small stride. Bat plane stayed level mostly with an exit velocity of 70 mph. 40 time was 6.01.

Mark Bernardi, C/1B, 2016

6-foot-2, 215-pound muscular catcher’s build. Good comfortable set-up, transfer was clean into high-¾ arm position. Pop time was 2.19 while velocity was 75 mph showing signs of arm strength. Improved footwork and quickness biggest challenge. Offensively, swings with power and strength. Starts in slightly open crouched stance. Some lift to swing, showed he can get backside through. Ball loud coming off bat. Chance to have some serious power. Exit velocity was day’s best at 93 mph while 40 time was 5.32.

Mateos Kekatos, RHP, 2016

6-foot-3, 195-pound evenly proportioned frame. Works strictly out the stretch with regular effort. Throws from high-¾ slot with some arm speed. Fastball worked between 81-82 mph with sink and some arm-side run. Was able to locate both sides. Curveball had 11/5 shape, rotation was tight. Pulled off head causing to stay up at 63-65 mph, changes release point at times. Changeup had feel with some sinking action at 69-71 mph. Actions and physicality is there.

Matthew Lonetto, OF/LHP, 2016

5-foot-8, 170-pound medium frame with muscular build. 77 mph velocity from outfield. Worked from a high-¾ slot, arm speed is their, tendency to fall off and collapse with front shoulder. At the plate, open stance with some bat movement. Keeps hands above baseball with loose, quick actions. Line drive approach with good bat speed. Exit velocity was 83 mph and 40 time was one of the top at 4.97. On the mound, Lonetto works from an over the top arm slot with regular effort. At times, he can fall off to the third base side causing issues with finish and extension. Arm action is clean and very quick. Fastball was 73-75, good action to it when down in zone, threw mostly for strikes. Breaking ball is a mix between slider and cut. Throws it hard, 68-70 with occasional bite. Changeup is best pitch with good arm side fade, easy to see confidence in pitch. A few mechanical adjustments and Lonetto could be taken as a quality two-way player.

Matt Brash, RHP/SS, 2016

6-foot, 145-pound slender, projectable frame. Defensively, lower half is athletic and agile. Hands need work, tendency to stay back on ball. Arm is loose and easy across the diamond at 85 mph. At the plate, starts hands back, tendency to get under ball. Toe tap to stride, head moves a fair bit. Exit velocity was 74 mph while running a 5.03 40-yard dash. On the mound, works from ¾ angle with loose, easy actions. Arm speed is there, gets natural run and sink. Breaking ball showed tight spin and two-plane break, varied between 64-69 mph. Arm angle had tendency to drop on off-speed pitches. Changeup was 66-67, threw for strikes. Pounded the zone with all three pitches. More in the tank, interesting follow over the winter.

Matthew Jones, LHP, 2016

6-foot-3, 170-pound long, lean lefty with quick twitch actions. Easy tempo out of full windup, tendency to fall off early to third base side. Arm action is short with arm speed out front. Fastball was 78-79 mph with some late life, more in the tank. Has showed more velocity in the fall. Showed proper rotation on curveball with late biting action. Casted a couple that stayed up in zone. Tendency to slow arm speed on changeup, had some fading action at 65-67 mph.

Matt Hilderbrandt, 1B, 2016

6-foot-5, 225-pound well proportioned build with current strength and power. Still more room to add development. On the infield, showed real good actions for player of his size. Lower half had some bounce and positive movements, hands worked showing ability to pick. Threw from a ¾ slot against a stiff front leg at 73 mph. At the plate, starts from even, upright stance with some bat movement. Creates good bat speed with strong, aggressive hacks. Can get long and cut lower half off from time to time. Power to pull side right now, makeup to hit is there. Exit velocity was 86 mph and his 40 time was 5.56.

Max Wright, C, 2016

6-foot-2, 185-pound well proportioned frame with strength. Receives well with soft hands, good feel. Very quiet with little wasted movement. Pop time was 2.00, usually around there or sub 2.00. Velocity from home-to-second was 71 mph, have seen throw better. Arm angle was high-¾. Offensively, starts slightly bent in knees with even stance. Small load and stride, Quiet actions with good rhythm to contact. Hit ball hard off the bat, hands work with with some bat speed. Potential power guy, swing suited to hit all fields. Exit velocity was 87 mph with a 40 time of 5.22. Chance to be best hitter in 2016 class.

Michael Haggan, 3B, 2016

6-foot, 220-pound thick frame. Defensively, lists as a third baseman, approach and footwork correct, moved through the ball with hands out front. Arm action was ¾ while top infield velocity was 71 mph. At the plate, hits from even stance with small stride and hands loaded back. Some loft to swing with uphill bat plane. Chance to have some strength in swing. Exit velocity was 82 mph while his 40 time was 6.03.

Nick Virdo, RHP, 2016

6-foot-4, 185-pound long, lean, slender righty with room to add strength. Works strictly out the stretch with a quick ¾ arm angle, hides the ball well, gets on hitters late. Fastball topped at 81 mph, has been up to 86 mph in September. Curveball is plus pitch, good tilt with tight downward action at 68-69 mph. Changeup sat between 71-73 mph with good arm deception and run. Chance to be high end guy in class of 2016. Lots to like.

Parker Walker, C/RHP, 2016

6-foot, 170-pound muscular catcher’s build. Behind the plate was 2.00 with velocity reading of 75 mph. Received with solid hands and quick transfer. Arm slot is a high-¾ out of the crouch. At the plate, hits from the left side with a crouched wide stance. Small stride and load, dives into plate. With strength and size, needs to generate more, slight uphill finish. Exit velocity was 71 mph, 40 time was 5.27. On the mound, Walker works with a quick tempo out the full. Arm is short through a ¾ arm slot. Needs to involve lower half. Fastball had tendency to be up in the zone, 75-78 mph. Curveball showed sweeping action across the zone at 61-62 mph. Change is still developing, sat at 62-63.

Pete Joseph, RHP, 2016

6-foot-1, 180-pound athletic, slender frame. Works from a low-¾ angle, produces natural tailing action, not to much is straight. Strictly out the stretch, starts closed off with knee to knee leg kick. Joseph’s fastball sat 77-78, arm action is short with a stab after separation. Breaking ball was more of slider with slurve action to it, threw for strikes at 69-71 mph. Changeup was down in zone with arm side run for strikes, 69-71 mph.

Sam Turcotte, RHP, 2016

6-foot-5, 190-pound well proportioned frame, long arms and legs, room to fill out. Really projects with size and actions. Worked from high-¾ slot with short action, legs used well and on-line. Fastball topped at 89, sat 86-88 with good life. Curveball had sharp 12/6 action with late break at 70-72 mph. Feel for changeup is there, maintained arm speed with late sinking action, 77-78 mph. Does good job of hiding the ball. Right now is one of top players in 2016 class in Ontario.

Simon Guthrie, OF/RHP, 2016

5-foot-11, 150-pound athletic frame with some strength. Defensively, charges ball from outfield, has bounce to step, needs to calm lower half during his throws, happy feet, top outfield velocity was 79. Offensively, hits from balanced stance with short load and swing to contact. Stops hands after load, more punch to swing. Exit velocity was 76 mph, 40 time was one of the best at 4.88. On the mound, Guthrie fastball was 75-77 with some cut action at times. Curveball had small break at 67-68 mph and he mixed in a changeup that was 68-69 mph.
