We would like to thank all who participated in PBR Ontario’s Toronto Elie Prospect Showcase. This was a great opportunity for the class of 2015, '16, '17, and '18 prospects to be put on college radars.

Individual Evaluations for the Class of 2017/'18


Ben Brown, LHP, 2017

5-foot-9, 185-pound stocky lefty with room for added development. Big leg kick, works out stretch, ¾ arm angle with short action. Fastball was 77-78 with some life and arm speed. Breaking ball was tight with 1/7 shape. Had late action to it, shows signs of being strong pitch at 67-68 mph. Mixed in changeup at 65-67 mph, gets good fade when balanced and online. Will be tough on lefties. 

Bryce Larson, 1B/LHP, 2017

6-foot-1, 190-pound projectable frame. Defensively, fielded ball cleanly out front of body, top velocity across the diamond was 76 mph. Offensively, the young right-handed hitter starts with even stance with some movement in the upper body. Strength and actions is there, tends to want to lift with an uphill finish. Exit velocity was 77 mph while his 40 time was 5.30. On the mound Larson had a controlled tempo throughout his delivery, at times could get short with stride, fall approach in lower half. Arm works, at times can get on side of ball. Fastball was 74-75 mph with some run. Curveball was 62-63 mph, presently soft and wide. Changeup was used at 67-69 mph with some fade when down and extended. Actions are there, can fly open too early at times, more reps and maturity will help.

Connor Lipinski, 3B, 2017

6-foot-2, 170-pound projectable frame. Defensively, arm works from a low-¾ arm slot. Transfer is clean, arm can get long and inverted. Hands and feet work, can move to both sides equally well. Top velocity across the infield was 77 mph. Offensively, hits from upright position with narrow set-up. Gets hands loaded and back, needs to involve lower half more, can drag backside. Exit velocity was 76 mph and 40 time at 5.20.

Danny Mahoney, C/2B, 2017

5-foot-10, 160-pound frame with some strength and athletic actions. From the infield, Mahoney fielded the ball out front with a short transfer. Arm action was short from a ¾ slot and 74 mph across the infield. Behind the plate, lower half moved well, showed some athleticism. Tendency to receive with both hands and a low transfer. Pop time was 2.08 while velocity was 72 mph. At the plate, starts from even stance, rock to load, hands ready to hit. Better when body and hands stay level, tendency to come up on finish. Produced solid contact. Exit Velocity was 83 mph showing some hand speed and strength, 40 time was 5.30.

Devon Robb, OF/RHP, 2017

6-foot-1, 170-pound strong build with wide shoulders. From the outfield, takes good approach to ball, throws were online with some arm strength, top velocity of 78 mph. At the plate, hits from wide stance with flexed knees. Rocks back to load, hands in good position to hit. Can involve lower half more, flashed level bat plane with extension. Exit velocity was 79 mph. On the mound, Robb worked from a high-¾ arm slot with regular effort, arm works with small coil in the wrist. Works a little bit across body with soft front side. Fastball was 73-75 mph with signs of command and downward action. Curveball was 62-63 mph with some sweeping action to it. Changeup was 69 mph, mostly straight.

Dondrae Bremner, SS, 2017

6-foot-1, 150-pound athletic frame with future strength gains remaining. Defensively, actions were impressive for a 2017 middle infielder. Hands were soft, fielded ball clean, a little gracefulness to his game in the field. Threw from a short ¾ slot that was 75 mph from the infield. Offensively, hits from even, upright stance. Small rock and leg kick to load, hands are loose with bat speed. Head will dip at times with one handed finish. Exit velocity was 84 mph, 40 time 5.32. Projects as gap guy with some power, athletic actions all around. Could be a guy with continued development and progression.

Dylan Howse, INF, 2017

5-foot-5, 110-pound frame. The undersized middle infielder showed confidence in his glove, attacking the ball. Hands worked, transfer was to a short ¾ arm angle that was 69 mph across the infield. Offensively, even stance with some bat movement. Hands get through the zone with some loose actions. Exit velocity was 66 mph, 40 time was 5.68. Added strength will be key factor for Howse who shows quality actions.

Hayden Malenfant, RHP, 2017

6-foot, 140-pound athletic righty with long legs and arms. Good lean pitchers frame that will fill out in time. Arm action is loose and easy with some arm speed to it. Works from a low-¾ arm slot with natural run and sink. Good tempo to delivery with hip turn on leg kick. Gets good direction back to the plate. Threw fastball for strikes sitting between 78-80 mph. Curveball showed good two-plane break and rotation at 63-64 mph. Changeup was natural, slowed arm down at times, makings of a quality changeup. Good looking 2017 prospect.

Jack Fabregas, C. 2017

6-foot, 140-pound projectable frame. Defensively behind the plate, set-up was proper, pop time was 2.36 while velocity was 67 mph. Needs to gain more ground and keep legs involved when throwing to second. Offensively, starts open with some loose actions with the bat. Small load and stride with slight rock to backside. Exit velocity was 69 mph while the 40 time registered at 5.47.

Jackson Arender, 2B, 2017

5-foot-10, 130-pound wiry frame with athletic actions. Upbeat infielder with a live lower half. Moved well through baseball. Quick first step, worked well laterally, hands were loose. Arm showed quickness from ¾ slot, 79 mph across the diamond. Offensively,starts hands up with leg kick to load. Slight hitch in hands and gets out front. Hands have good loose actions with some quickness. Exit velocity was 80 mph, 40 time was 5.19. Few mechanical adjustments and could be real nice player.

Jakob Macleod, RHP, 2017

5-foot-11, 145-pound athletic frame. Over-head delivery from the wind-up, proper arm action with clean separation, lands across body. Good momentum going to plate, fastball topped at 76 mph with ability to locate in zone. Curveball had big break with some downward depth and 11/5 shape, showed feel, best pitch. Tendency to pull changeup, kept arm speed, should improve and become a pitch for Macleod. Solid base to work with, strength gains will help velocity.

Landon Leach, RHP/OF, 2017

6-foot-1, 155-pound frame with athletic build, long legs and arms. From the outfield was 82 mph with good arm speed and carry, arm works. Open stance at plate with some strength and bat speed. Bat generates good finish through zone, some power to pull side. Exit velocity was 80 mph while Leach ran a 5.31 40-yard dash. On the mound, Leach stands out with his frame, arm speed and strength. Fastball was heavy with sink at 82 mph from high-¾. Threw both slider and curveball, slider was the better on this day. Short tilt when stays on top, had good velocity to it at 70-72. Changeup was effective, good action down in the zone, was plus pitch. Should be someone to watch out for in the future.

Liam Hicks, 3B/2B, 2017

5-foot-10, 155-pound durable frame with room to add strength. Defensively, fields ball cleanly out front, under control. Arm works from ¾ slot, was 76 mph across the diamond. Projects as left-handed hitting third baseman, possibly second base if he works on lower half. At the plate has tall, upright stance. Quiet load, loose, quick hands through the ball, head stays quiet with some bat speed through the zone. Ball jumps off bat with smooth, easy swing. Exit velocity was 86 mph, good looking hitter in the class of 2017.

Max Mancini, OF/RHP, 2017

5-foot-5, 130-pound average frame with some athleticism to his game. Approaches ball well from outfield, clean arm path with some quickness to it. Outfield velocity was 78 mph, arm slot was a low-¾. At the plate, Mancini shows quiet actions with a fluid stroke. Very little movement, short line drive approach. Bat speed is there, surprising pop for size. Exit velocity was 81 mph, 40 time 5.16. On the mound, Mancini showed good tempo while staying strictly out of the stretch. Arm action was loose and easy with good path, fastball showed some life to it, 75-77 mph. Trouble locating to glove side. Curveball had 11/5 shape with small break, 63-68 mph. Changeup was 59-64 mph with deliberate action. Must maintain arm speed.

Mike MacDougall, RHP, 2017

6-foot-2, 155-pound long lean righty. Slow tempo delivery with a ¾ arm slot. Arm action is short and wraps after separation. Needs to involve lower half more. Fastball was 70-72 mph, more efficient when able to get on top and stay online. Curveball showed spin with gradual break at 62-64 mph. Changeup was between 67-70 with some arm-side run. Really like the size and length, more reps and repeatable mechanics key for MacDougall.

Mitch Osborne, C/3B, 2017

6-foot-1, 171-pound loose, athletic frame. On the infield, set-up and approach is good. Best suited as a third baseman if catcher doesn’t work out. Arm plays with quickness and carry, short ¾ arm slot with life across the diamond at 80 mph. Behind the plate, Osborne best pop time was 2.11, athletic movements, life and carry on throws with a velocity of 75 mph. Offensively, toe tap to stride, dives into plate, front foot hitter. Strength and hands work well, able to control bat with some lift and power to the pull side. Exit velocity was 78 mph, 40 time was 5.28.

Philip Kolanowski, INF, 2017

5-foot-5, 110-pound frame. The undersized infielder moved well on his feet and side to side. Actions were clean, squared up ball and was 60 mph across the infield. At the plate, hits from open stance with hands high and small leg kick to load. Smooth swing that stays flat and above the ball. Exit velocity was 73 mph and his 40 time was 5.66.

Ricardo Alvarez, RHP/OF, 2017

5-foot-11, 170-pound projectable frame. From the outfield, shows a short, quick arm from a ¾ slot. Top outfield velocity was 81 mph, with good extension and proper rotation out front. Offensively, balanced approach at plate wit even stance and hands up. Small rock to load with short stride. Hands can get underneath ball creating some lift action. Better when on top and level. Some strength for the young prospect, exit velocity was 76 mph while the 40 time 5.09. On the mound, Alvarez works from a high-¾ arm slot with a loose, short action. Down and out leg drive, fastball was 76-78 mph regular effort. Curveball had 10/4 shape, better when direction stayed on-line, 62-67 mph. Changeup was 66-69 mph, slowed arm and left up.

Sebastian Pochun, OF/C, 2017

5-foot-10, 148-pound medium frame with some strength right now. Approached the ball directly from outfield but would fall off-line on his throws, top outfield velocity was 68 mph. Behind the plate was 2.89 from home-to-second. Velocity was 62 mph from a ¾ arm slot, footwork can be cleaned up. At the plate, starts square to pitcher, tendency to drop hands and lift. Needs to generate more off of backside. Exit velocity was 66 mph while his 40 time was 5.19.

Steven Sanders, LHP, 2017

6-foot-1, 140-pound left-handed pitcher with good tempo and rhythm. Arm works from a ¾ slot with good actions and arm speed. Front foot lands closed, hinders extension slightly. Fastball was 73-75 mph with some life, more in the tank. Curveball flashed sharp 1/7 shape with some bite when extended. Could be plus pitch down the road. Mixed in a straight change at 68-70 for strikes, kept arm speed. With continued development and physical gains, Sanders is a good-looking prospect for 2017.

Thomas Grilli, SS/2B, 2017

5-foot-10, 145-pound athletic frame. Defensively, moves well, light on feet. Athletic actions in the infield while staying under control. Arm had some whip to it, top velocity across the diamond was 77 mph, should be more to come. At the plate, athletic set-up with some quick twitch actions. Leg kick to load with loose and easy hands. Made hard contact, at times would get big and lift, causing to get long. Showed hands worked well to ball. Exit velocity was 78 mph with a 40 time of 5.52. Good looking athlete for 2017 class.

Trevor Lethbridge, RHP, 2017

5-foot-11, 177-pounds medium frame with room to add strength. Arm action is quick out of glove, quick out front. Slings it a bit from his ¾ angle. At times can get underneath ball, better action when on top and out front. Fastball was 77-79 mph with some late life to it. Curveball was best pitch, threw it hard at 67-69 mph. Rotation was tight with some bite in the strike zone. Makings of a go to pitch. Changeup was 70-73 mph with arm-side run. Repeatable mechanics and actions will give Lethbridge chance to throw hard one day.

Tyler Roberts, RHP, 2017

5-foot-8, 140-pound small frame with room for added development. Over the head delivery, slow tempo with hip turn out of the full windup. Lands flat and online. Arm action works, hides fastball well at 74-76 mph, able to locate. Curveball was 58-60 mph. Needs to throw harder. Shows feel for pitch with proper spin, tendency to slow arm and fly open. Changeup was between 64-67 mph, stayed with pitch and threw around zone, at best when arm speed an extension was involved, created some down action.

Leo Markotic, MIF, 2018

5-foot-10, 160-pound athletic build with room to physically mature. Young infielder with good actions. Moves well in lower half. Hands and feet both work, gets rid of the ball quickly. Top velocity across the infield was 70 mph from a loose, ¾ slot. More in the tank. Offensively, starts in open stance, good rhythm and separation for the young 2018. Bat path is short and quick, can get locked up on front leg at times. Exit velocity was 78 mph and 40 time was 5.06. Makings of a 2018 prospect.

Ryan Ashurst, SS/2B, 2018

5-foot-7, 145-pound build. Plenty of time to physically mature. Defensively, stays in front, must continue to work through the ball, tendency to stop feet. Arm played from a ¾ angle at 63 mph. At the plate, Ashurst started slightly open with hands back and up. Needs to get backside through and drive a little more, was aggressive with swings. Exit velocity was 66 mph, 40 time at 5.70.
