Ontario Green (5) vs. Atlantic (0)

As we mentioned earlier in the week, Ontario Green can run and run fast. A team full of 6.6, 6.7, and 6.8 runners, Ontario used their legs and discipline at the plate to put up a five spot on the Atlantic squad despite only recording three hits. Here is a rundown of the highlights:

Michael Brettel, RHP, Great Lake Canadians, 2015

Brettell started things off for Ontario Green and continued to do what he has done all summer. Brettell went five scoreless for green while giving up two hits, three walks, and struck out seven. In Brettell's third appearance in just under a week, he sat 83-85 with his fastball with good sink down in the zone. He attacked both sides of the plate, and kept hitters off balance with his quickly improving slider and changeup. Brettell has had some interest from some Division 1 schools, with more to jump aboard and try to sign the 4.0 high school senior.

Darren Shred, RHP/C, Ontario Blue Jays, 2015

Shred is a very intriguing player. He possess the skills of a top notch defensive catcher who can throw and receive as well a potential power bat in the middle of the lineup. Today, it was his first appearance on the mound this week, and Shred made it look as if he’s been a pitcher regularly for his club team the Ontario Blue Jays. Shred was 86-88 mph with his fastball while using mostly just his arm. The arm works and his actions and arm speed are what can allow him to dial up his high 80’s fastball. Shred threw with a short stride, and almost no legs involved in his delivery. His breaking ball was a mixture between a slider and curveball at 73-75, but was thrown with conviction and for strikes. Regularly a catcher for Team Canada, Shred has shown great potential on the mound with little time devoted to the craft; something that must be intriguing and promising for his coaches and college recruiters.

NOTEABLES

With only three hits mustered for Ontario Green, it was their base running ability that was able to allow them to put up a five spot. Tristan Pomey and Elliott Curtis each had two steal apiece, while Ian Wilson and Max Wright chipped in with a bag of their own.

2015 catcher Tony Hrynkiw continued to get on base and and drive in runners going 2 for 3 with with an RBI in Green’s only game of the day.
