2014 Unsigned Senior Showcase: Corner Infield Analysis

The 2nd Annual Unsigned Senior Showcase took place on October 18. A number of solid performances were turned in with catcher Logan Snyder (Lakeview) taking home top prospect honors. Over the course of the next week we will take a look at each of the prospects in attendance by position. Today we continue our review by analyzing the corner infielders.

2014 unsigned senior showcase: Corner infield analysis

Garett Goslaw, 3B/2B, Butler Area HS, PA (2015)

Goslaw ran a 7.17 60-yard dash and showed a well-rounded skill set in all that he did. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound right-handed hitter flashed the top bat exit velocity of the day at 91 mph. He uses a leg lift trigger from a slightly open stance to create good barrel whip and displayed some pop in his bat when he squared the baseball. Goslaw showcased an accurate 76 mph arm across the diamond while playing through the baseball routinely.

Matthew Yough, 1B/RHP, Karns City HS, PA (2015)

Yough has shown continual development over the past two years. The 6-foot, 165-pound two-way prospect ran a 7.40 60-yard dash and displayed solid glovework and feet around the bag at first base. Yough starts from a slightly open right-handed stance offensively while utilizing a direct path to the baseball to create a bat exit velocity of 83 mph. He showcased he ability to square the baseball routinely while using all fields. Yough sat 76-78 from a high 3/4 arm slot during his bullpen session with command of four pitches. His 71 mph changeup is thrown at near fastball arm speed and his 67 mph curveball, 69 mph slider mix give him four pitches in his arsenal. Yough pounded the strike zone with repeatable mechanics.

Shane Rivenburgh, 1B/3B, Lakeland HS, PA (2015)

Rivenburgh showcased good feet and athletic actions defensively with a 76 mph arm across the diamond. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound right-handed hitter ran a 7.44 60-yard dash and registered an 83 mph bat exit velocity. Rivenburgh starts from a slightly open stance and used a lift and replace stride while consistently squaring the baseball to all fields with some gap power potential.

Thomas Prato, 1B/C, Central Bucks East HS, PA (2015)

Prato displayed a toe tap stride from a high hands load with a bat exit velocity of 81 mph. The 6-foot-1, 220-pound right-handed hitter squared the baseball routinely with a flat swing path and showed the ability to drive both gaps. Prato showed good feet around the bag at first base and an accurate 75 mph across the diamond. He finished his day by running a 7.58 60-yard dash.

Derek Slater, 1B/RHP, Lakeview HS, PA (2015)

Slater ran a 7.98 60-yard dash and showcased an accurate 69 mph arm across the diamond from first base. The 6-foot-1, 235-pound right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and utilizes a lift and replace stride. He barreled the baseball frequently with a bat exit velocity of 70 mph. Slater sat 71-73 on the mound from a high 3/4 arm slot. He also flashed a 67 mph changeup and a 59 mph curveball with looping 10/4 rotation.
