Analyzing the Middle Infielders at the Western PA Open ID Showcase (Session 2)

Two Class of 2014 prospects stood out among the group of middle infielders in attendance at the Western PA Open ID Showcase (Session 2) on January 19 at the Family First Sports Dome in Erie PA. A complete analysis of all the middle infielders follows.

Teddy BallgameTed Williams, 2B/SS, Meadville HS, Class of 2014
Williams continues to show improvements in all facets of the game. He ran a 7.13 60-yard dash, the 3rd fastest time of the event and he showcased the top arm among middle infielders on throws of 82 mph across the diamond. The 5-foot-8, 140-pound prospect showed quick hands and a fluid swing from the left side in a solid round of batting practice. Williams demonstrated the ability to consistently hit baseballs on a line to all fields.

Devon WalkerDevon Walker, 2B/RHP, DuBois Area HS, Class of 2014
Walker was one of the most impressive prospects at the event. The 5-foot-9, 160-pound junior ran a 7.51 60-yard dash and threw 77 mph across the infield. Walker displayed soft hands, athletic actions and a quick release from his middle infield position. Walker was particularly impressive at the plate. He used a strong lower half and quick hands to consistently line pitches to all fields. He displayed the ability to stay inside the baseball and a bat exit velocity of 81 mph.

Tanner Teconchuk, 2B/RHP, Warren Area HS, Class of 2014
Teconchuk showed well, displaying improvements in several areas since we last saw him. The 5-foot-8, 145-pound prospect ran an improved 60-yard dash in 7.66, and showcased an improved arm across the diamond at 76 mph. Teconchuk had a consistent round of batting practice, squaring most pitches and displayed the ability to use all fields.

Cole Kephart, SS/2B, Clearfield Area HS, Class of 2015
Kephart is a 6-foot-1, 190-pound prospect who showed potential. He ran a 7.21 60-yard dash, threw 73 mph across the infield and displayed a 74 mph bat exit velocity. Kephart had a solid round of batting practice and showed some pop when he stayed on plane with his swing. He showcased a strong lower half and the potential to be a quality high school hitter.

John O'Donnell, 2B/SS, Bishop Canevin HS, Class of 2014
O'Donnell ran a 7.78 60-yard dash, threw 66 mph across the diamond and showcased a 75 mph bat exit velocity. Offensively, O'Donnell used a square stance and a short stroke to square the baseball frequently in his round of batting practice.
