Best Tools: Uncommitted 2017 Catchers

As we reach the midpoint of the fall season with the NCAA signing period less than two months away, we will highlight a group of the top uncommitted prospects in the senior class this week.  We begin today with catchers.

Best Hitting Prospect: Austin Mueller, Parkland

The 5-foot-11, 195-pound switch-hitter led perennial power Parkland in batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage as a junior, while also drawing 13 walks against only four strikeouts. He repeats his swing from both sides of the plate and has shown solid gap power.


Best Defensive Prospect: Nick Campana, Downingtown West

Campana has shown well defensively during multiple viewings over the past year. While managing a talented Whippets staff this past spring, the 6-foot, 185-pounder received well, provided a soft wall when blocking, and flashed between innings pop times of 2.06-2.19 with an accurate arm.

Best Power Prospect & Best Arm Strength: Tyler Peters, Lancaster Catholic

Peters has a tool set that would stack up well at any position. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound right-handed hitter has over-the-fence power potential, having flashed 95 mph exit velocity and shown an ability to tap into it in game action with a pinch-hit, walk-off bomb during the Pennsylvania Travel Baseball State Championships. He is still a work in progress defensively, but routinely shows 80-plus mph arm strength from the crouch with workout pop times as low as 2.00 and in-game pops at 2.09.
