Catcher Analysis: Week 4 of Fall College Prospect Program

C/RHP Ryan Curtis, Westerville North HS (OH), Class of 2014

Curtis showcased good extension to his swing and a simple approach to hitting. He went 2-for-3 at the plate in game action and displayed a 79 mph bat exit velocity. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound backstop showed pop times of 2.15-2.25 on throws of 68 mph out of the crouch.

Jake KleindlC/1B Jake Kleindl, Shady Side Academy

Kleindl was impressive in batting practice. He barreled the baseball routinely and the ball jumped off his bat. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound right-handed hitter went 1-for-2 in game action. Kleindl showcased pop times of 2.00-2.09 on throws of 72 mph from the crouch. He has some work to do on his receiving and blocking skills, but his bat and the ability to play 1B as well make him one of the more attractive uncommitted seniors still available in PA.

C Mason Prickett, Moon Area HS, Class of 2014

Prickett turned in a 90 mph bat exit velocity and barreled the baseball repeatedly to the pull side during BP. The left-handed hitter went on to go 1-for-3 with a double in game action. Prickett showcased pop times of 2.06-2.15 on throws of 70 mph out of the crouch. The 6-foot, 190-pound uncommitted senior also showed solid receiving and blocking skills in game action.

C/1B Chase Thurber, Pymatuming Valley HS, Class of 2015

Thurber showcased pop times of 2.05-2.15 on throws of 77 mph out of the crouch. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound prospect has a very strong arm and straight line carry on throws to 2B. Thurber displayed very solid receiving and blocking skills during game action. He hits from a slightly open stance with a flat bat through the hitting zone. Thurber barreled the baseball consistently with a bat exit velocity of 82 mph during his round of batting practice.

C/3B Dan Trettel, North Allegheny HS, Class of 2014

Trettel is a 6-foot, 170-pound C/3B that has gotten noticeably stronger in the past six months. He showcased solid footwork and a clean exchange with pop times of 2.06-2.12 on throws of 70 mph out of the crouch. The right-handed hitter displayed an 85 mph bat exit velocity and the ability to barrel the baseball consistently to all fields.

C Nathan Weckerly, Karns City HS, Class of 2014

Weckerly is a 5-foot-9, 150-pound prospect that showcased pop times of 2.18-2.34 on throws of 70 mph out of the crouch. Weckerly showcased a simple approach to hitting with no stride, a short swing path and a bat exit velocity of 70 mph. He displayed the ability to barrel the baseball frequently in using all fields during his round of batting practice.
