Conference Preview: District 5 Class AA

With the start of the high school season getting started we have been previewing conferences around the state leading up to opening day. In addition to a look at the top teams we will also highlight some of the top prospects in each conference.

            district 5 Class AA

Preseason Favorite

Bedford (18-4)

The Bison are the clear favorite to win a 2nd consecutive district title with a solid core of their 2013 lineup returning. Junior RHP Isaac Kline tossed a complete game shutout in last year's title game and will anchor the rotation again in 2014. Last year's opponent in the title game Everett lost seven every day starters to graduation.

 

Preseason Player of the Year

Bryce SpakBryce Spak, Windber HS (Class of 2014)

Spak is a 6-foot-4, 195-pound LHP that tops at 84 mph with a hard biting slider. He went 6-2 on the mound in 2013. Spak compiled a 3.15 ERA in 53.1 innings of work with 76 strikeouts. The left-handed hitter also contributed offensively hitting .382 with 18 RBI.
