Conference Preview: WPIAL Class A - Section 4

By Greg Williams
PA Director of Scouting

With the start of the high school season getting started we have been previewing conferences around the state leading up to opening day. In addition to a look at the top teams we will also highlight some of the top prospects in each conference.

           WPIAL Class A - Section 4

Preseason Favorite

Riverview (15-3), North Catholic (10-5)

These two squads battled each other a year ago finishing with identical 7-1 records at the top of the section standings. Although both lost a few talented players to graduation, the gap between them and the rest of the section is still significant. Riverview returns two of their top three arms from 2013 while North Catholic has a very talented junior class returning.

Preseason Player of the Year

Nick DiBucciNick Dibucci, Riverview HS (Class of 2014)

Dibucci had a big junior year for the Raiders who finished ranked No. 15 in the PBR final Class A state rankings. The 5-foot-11, 165-pound C/RHP had 27 hits and finished the regular season with a .563 batting average good for 4th in the WPIAL. Dibucci was also part of a three-man pitching rotation with Anthony Malky (Akron) and Dom Conte. The senior will be relied upon more heavily on the mound in his final season in a Raiders uniform.
