Eastern PA Open ID Showcase (Session 1): Unsigned Senior Spotlight

By Greg Williams
PA Director of Scouting

WorthingtonAlex Worthington has yet to make a college commitment, but based on his performance at the Eastern PA Open ID Showcase on January 13 that could change in the near future. Worthington started the morning session of his workout by running a 7.15 60-yard dash. The 5-foot-10, 145-pound RHP/SS from Montgomery HS went on to show good range and quick feet defensively. He had a very solid round of batting practice, spraying line drives to all fields. Worthington used a short swing path and a 78 mph bat exit velocity to consistently square the baseball. He was most impressive in his afternoon bullpen session. Throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot, Worthington showed good life on his 82 mph fastball that had some arm side run. He also commanded a 11/5 breaking curveball at 66 mph and a 63 mph knuckle ball that danced pretty well. Worthington is an athletic prospect that could potentially be a two-way player at the next level given the opportunity.

Worthington enters his senior season one year removed from helping to lead the Red Raiders to the Pennsylvania AA State Championship Game. He hit .392 with 30 runs scored and 22 RBI. Worthington went 6-1 on the mound with a 1.37 ERA. In 56.1 innings of work he struck out 59 batters and held opposing hitters to a .181 batting average.
