Elite Prospect Showcase Analysis: Outfielders

The 2014 Elite Prospect Showcase took place Saturday, November 1st at Keystone State Baseball Academy in Manheim, PA with 56 prospects from three states displaying their skills. Today we conclude our wrap up with an evaluation of the outfielders in attendance.

Catchers (In Alphabetical Order)


Stephen Bernhardt
, OF, St. Joseph's Prep, PA (2016)

Bernhardt ran a 7.63 60-yard dash and displayed the ability to play through the baseball with an accurate 76 mph arm defensively. The 5-foot-9, 155-pound right-handed hitter begins from a square stance and utilizes a lift and replace stride with a short swing path. Bernhardt squared the baseball consistently to all fields during batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 77 mph.  

Brady Devereux, RHP/OF, Malvern Prep, PA (2018)

Devereux showed a great deal of promise as a two-way prospect. The 6-foot-1,170-pound freshman's abilities on the mound was covered in depth in our article on the top prospects in attendance. Offensively, Devereux starts from a square stance and has some glide in his approach with a flat path through the zone. He barreled the baseball frequently to all fields with a bat exit velocity of 81 mph. Devereux moves well in the outfield (7.25 60-yard dash) and displayed 83 mph arm strength with good carry to his throws.

Chase Gilbert, OF/LHP, Hempfield HS, PA (2016)

Gilbert showed well in all facets of the game, topping at 81 from the mound. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound left-handed hitter has a physical frame and the ball jumps off his bat head. Gilbert starts slightly open and utilizes a lift and replace stride to contact. He has a quiet load and explosive lower half allowing him to drive baseballs to all fields with a bat exit velocity of 83 mph. Gilbert showed capable defensive actions with an 82 mph arm and ran a 7.31 60-yard dash.

Langston Livingston, OF, La Salle HS, PA (2016)

Livingston is an impressive looking athlete at 6-foot-3, 185-pounds. The left-handed hitter topped all runners with a 6.79 60-yard dash. Livingston hits from an open stance with some glide to his approach and loose hands. He generates solid barrel whip with a strong lower half and quick hands. Livingston drove baseballs with authority to the pull side and displayed a bat exit velocity of 82 mph. The right-handed thrower will need to continue to develop his defensive skills. He displayed some stiffness to his actions with 77 mph arm strength from the outfield.

Kyle Miller, OF, Pope John Paul II, PA (2015)

Miller ran a 7.09 60-yard dash coming back off a meniscus injury to his knee. While he was not at full strength, his athleticism and foot speed potential were evident in his defensive actions. Miller flashed a 77 mph arm from the outfield while playing through the baseball. The right-handed hitter utilized a lift and replace stride in a solid round of batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 76 mph. Miller is currently ranked No. 336 in the PA Class of 2015.

Frankie Montecalvo, OF, Bishop Guilfoyle HS, PA (2017)

Montecalvo showed well in all facets of the game. The 5-foot-10, 160-pound sophomore ran a 6.83 60-yard dash and displayed an accurate 78 mph arm from the outfield. Montecalvo will need to work defensively to be more fluid in his actions to better utilize his above average foot speed. Offensively the right-handed hitter registered a very solid 88 mph bat exit velocity while consistently barreling the baseball to all fields. Montecalvo uses a heel raise load with no stride and quick hands to create barrel whip. The sophomore stays behind the baseball well and uses a direct swing path to contact.

Joseph Parrillo, OF, East Islip HS, NY (2015)

Parrillo packs a punch in his 5-foot-7, 160-pound frame. The East Islip, NY senior showcased solid straight line carry and athletic actions defensively with an above average 86 mph arm. Parrillo ran a 6.97 60-yard dash and displayed quick hands with a direct swing path at the plate. The right-handed hitter barreled the baseball routinely from a crouched stance with a leg lift stride. Parrillo displayed the ability to be a contact guy that runs well enough to affect the game from the top of the order with a bat exit velocity of 74 mph.

Aidan Plants, OF, Montoursville HS, PA (2016)

Plants is a 5-foot-7, 180-pound junior that ran a 7.27 60-yard dash. The right-handed hitter displayed a shoulder roll load with a heel raise stride and a bat exit velocity of 80 mph. He barreled the baseball consistently to all fields in batting practice with a short swing path to contact. Plants displayed an accurate 82 mph arm from the outfield while playing through the baseball routinely.

Anthony Piccolino, LHP/OF, Iona Prep, NY (2017)

Piccolino showed well in all facets of the game. The 5-foot-11, 165-pounder ran a 6.89 60-yard dash and flashed an 84 mph arm from the outfield with fluid actions. The left-handed hitter displayed a line drive approach at the plate from a square stance with a bat exit velocity of 84 mph. Piccolino consistently squared the baseball to all fields with a direct swing path. Read more on Piccolino's performance on the mound posted in a previous article.

Austin Wacker, OF/RHP, Cumberland Valley HS, PA (2016)

Wacker showcased a high hands load and a toe tap load from the right-hand side of the plate. He wore out the middle of the field in a solid round of batting practice. Wacker ran a 7.06 60-yard dash and showed fluid actions defensively with 83 mph arm strength. Read more on Wacker's performance on the mound posted in a previous article.
