Elite Prospect Showcase Preview: Bordering States Talent

By Greg Williams
PA Director of Scouting

The 2014 Elite Prospect Showcase will take place on November 1 bringing together many of the top prospects in the Class of 2016, 2017 & 2018 as well as a few talented unsigned seniors. Last year's inaugural event was highly successful with 20 players going on to make college commitments to date. Among those in attendance last year, 2016 OF J.J. Bleday (Titusville) was one of the standouts. The two-way prospect went on to make a commitment to Vanderbilt shortly after the completion of the event and was named this fall to the final USA Baseball 59 man roster for the 2015 18-and-under National Team Trials.

The 2014 version of this event is less than one week away. Registrations are set to close this evening with a finalized roster and complete event schedule details to be released tomorrow. Today we take a look at a handful of prospects that will make the journey from bordering state to participate.

New York Prospects

Joseph Parrillo

Unsigned senior outfielder Joseph Parillo (East Islip) showed well in the PBR New York Unsigned Senior Games in September. The 5-foot-7 160-pounds prospect ran a 7.00 60-yard dash and showcased 80 mph arm strength defensively.

Joining Parillo from the Empire State will be two Iona Prep Class of 2017 prospects. LHP/OF Anthony Piccolino is a 5-foot-11, 165-pound prospect that had productive summer and fall travel seasons and recently began playing with Bubba Baseball. RHP/1B Joseph Iengo should also turn some heads with his 6-foot-4, 190-pound frame and his potential two-way abilities.

New Jersey Prospects

Tim Dezzi

The Garden State will also have three underclassmen on the roster. Shortstop Tim Dezzi is a 5-foot-11, 175-pound prospect that was a varsity starter at Clearfield Regional HS as a freshman last year. Dezzi will be joined by fellow Bubba Baseball teammate 2B/OF Sky Duff, a Class of 2018 prospect from Bishop Eustace HS. Rounding out the New Jersey trio is 6-foot-2, 175-pound Collin Garraway from Kingsway Regional HS. Garraway has a projectable frame and will showcase as a third baseman and as a right-handed pitcher.
