Game Recap: North Penn at Souderton Area

Souderton Area 4, North Penn 2

Locals in the stands were trying to decide how long it has been since Souderton swept the season series from North Penn.  After several minutes and various guesses it was agreed upon that it had been many years, possibly not since the 1970's.  On Wednesday Souderton Area did just that by beating North Penn for the second time this season, this time 4-2 thanks to solid pitching and just enough offense.

Masachusetts-Lowell commit, 2018 RHP Blaise Sclafani gave the Indians five solid innings for the win allowing one earned run on six hits.  Senior Dan Knechel entered with runners at first and second with nobody out in the top of the 6th inning.  Following a sacrifice bunt that moved both runners into scoring position the right-hander induced back-to-back fly balls to escape the inning with the 4-2 lead intact.  After Souderton failed to score in the bottom of the inning Knechel got three successive fly balls to center field to earn the save and sent the Indians faithful home happy.

Lackawanna College commit Thylar Summarell got the Souderton offense going in the bottom of the 1st inning when he launched a two-run home run to right field for a 2-0 lead.  North Penn got an unearned run back in the top of the 2nd inning on a double from Billy Collins.

As good teams do Souderton manufactured two runs in the third inning with just one hit, a leadoff single from Luke Barnum who went 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored on the day.  A walk, a hit batter and two Knights' errors wrapped around a nifty 6-4-3 double play led to the two run uprising.

North Penn cut into the Indians lead in the 5th with a walk and back-to-back singles from sophomore shortstop Zaci Miles and senior first baseman Corey Stouffer.  Sclafani prevented any further damage by getting a strikeout and a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning.
