Game Recap: Cumberland Valley at Red Land

Red Land 4, Cumberland Valley 4 (9 innings)

A game that was deadlocked at 4-4 after five innings ended in a suspended game due to darkness with no further scoring. What transpired over the final two innings that solidified the 4-4 stalemate was nothing short of remarkable.

Three game saving plays by Cumberland Valley were the difference in the game which will be continued on a future date. 

Overcash Extends the Game

Adam OvercashFollowing a leadoff single by Michael Sears in the bottom of the 8th inning, and a sacrifice bunt that moved him to second, Red Land senior Nate Chapman laced a fastball into center field for what appeared to be the game winning hit.  Belmont Abbey recruit Adam Overcash had other ideas however as he made a perfect throw to the plate to cut down pinch runner Jaelyn Gaither.

Overcash Does it Again

Red Land junior Cole Souders followed Chapman's single to center field with one of his own once again appearing to have won the game in walk-off fashion.  Overcash made a second picture perfect throw to the plate and received help from catcher Connor Landry who made a sweep tag on Mason Walker to extend the game to a 9th inning.

Beck Finds a Way

Beck WayOvercash's future college teammate Beck Way, also a Belmont Abbey recruit, worked the final four innings on the mound.  Way, who had made an athletic diving catch of his own earlier in the game in left field was the beneficiary of stellar defense turned in by Overcash in the 8th. In the 9th it was Way's turn to have an ESPN moment.

Red Land once again appeared to be set to win in walk-off fashion when senior Josh Snyder walked and advanced to third on a double by freshman Luke Wagner to open the inning.  Liberty commit Drew Baughman smothered a one hop smash off the bat of Kentucky commit Jared Payne for the first out of the frame and Cumberland Valley then chose to walk High Point commit Zeb Stough to load the bases.  With one out junior Sears laced a ball that appeared to be heading to center field for the game winner, but Way was able to snare the line drive and fire to first base to double Stough off the bag for an inning ending and game extending double play.
