Game Recap: Montour at Blackhawk

By Greg Williams
PA Director of Scouting

BLackhawk 3, Montour 0

With the WPIAL Class AAA Section 1 title resting in the balance, Louisville recruit Brendan McKay took matters into his own hands and helped the Cougars secure at worst a share of the section title on Senior Night at Chippewa Park. Montour finishes league play at 8-2 with a series split with Blackhawk. The Cougars can win the section outright, and potentially earn a No. 1 seed heading into the WPIAL playoffs, with a win tomorrow at West Allegheny.

McKay served notice in the top of the 1st inning that a repeat of the lopsided 10-0 Montour win earlier in the season was not likely to take place this time. He set down the side on strike to start the game and drove in two runs with a double to the left field wall in the bottom of the frame to give himself all the run support needed.

Cougars' right fielder Rich Rowe coaxed a lead-off walk and moved to second on a single off the bat of 1B Chase Migliore. Both would come home to score on McKay's double. The scoring for the inning and the game was capped when CF Cody Bain hit a sacrifice fly to center field to drive in the third run.

McKay went to work from their recording 14 strikeouts, yielding just one infield hit, and did not walk a batter. The talented lefty faced one batter over the minimum and extended his ever growing scoreless innings streak to 58 consecutive innings.

Montour freshman RHP Trent Vietmeir served notice that he will be a highly followed prospect in the Class of 2017 with three solid innings of relief work. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound righty registered three strikeouts and did not allow a hit or a walk.
