Game Recap: North Penn at Central Bucks South

By Jacob Gill

North Penn 5, Central Bucks South 4

In the hyper-competitive Suburban One Continental Division, one should expect nothing less than a one-run game that has the tying run stranded on third base when the final out is recorded. That's exactly what happened at CB South, where North Penn pitchers constantly worked out of jams on a day when the Titans had at least one runner on base in every inning.

Michael Kuypers'14 C Bobby Scott opened the scoring in the top of the second inning with a home run to left. It was all the Knights would muster early on, as five of their first ten hitters were retired via strikeout. On the front end of those strikeouts was 2015 RHP Michael Kuypers (right), who was in total command for the first three innings and finished with eight strikeouts over five frames. (See video on Kuypers in today's spotlight video)

The Knights had better success the second time through the order, tallying three times on RBI from '15 1B Douglas Apple, '14 OF Brandon Heggan, and '15 2B Anthony Cameron. Those runs provided support for 6-foot-3, 215-pound '15 RHP Collin Healey, who pitched himself in and out of trouble throughout his 4.2 innings of work. Working down in the zone well, he was aided by two 6-4-3 double plays that immediately followed lead-off walks.

A triple by '15 OF Mike Anastasia, who was then plated by '14 OF Tanner Pfender, cut the deficit in half and chased Healey from the game, bringing '15 RHP James Witner out of the bullpen. He gave up a run in the sixth (which followed North Penn's fifth and final tally that scored on a wild pitch) and another in the seventh, before coaxing a flyout to right with runners on first and third to end it.

Jared Melone'15 3B Jared Melone (right) stung two singles for North Penn, while Pfender and '14 1B Matt Radwanski each had two hits to lead CB South.
