Game Recap: Strath Haven at Radnor

By Jacob Gill
Pennsylvania Assistant Director of Scouting

Strath Haven 9, Radnor 3

The visiting Panthers scored eight runs in the fifth and sixth innings to turn a pitchers' duel between a pair of junior righties into a runaway victory in the Central League opener. Radnor's Charlie Connolly (4.1 IP, 4 H, 3 BB, 2 HBP, 9 K) came out pumping, but Strath Haven's Will Carey (5 IP, 3 H, 4 BB, 8 K) was equal to the task. The majority of the free passes issued by both pitchers came as their early-season outings wore on and they began to fatigue.

Strath Haven opened the scoring in the top of the third on a RBI single by senior second baseman Andrew Pennoni, but Connolly sandwiched a pair of strikeouts around a hit batsman that loaded the bases to escape further damage. The Panthers scratched two more across in the fifth before the floodgates opened against the bullpen in the sixth inning. Radnor scored three runs in the final two innings off the Panthers bullpen, but the game was well in hand by then.

Pennoni (3-4, 2 R, 2 RBI, BB) and Carey (3-5, R, RBI) led the way offensively for Strath Haven, while sophomore third baseman Anthony Viggiano (2 BB, 2 HBP) reached base in four of five plate appearances. Junior shortstop Pat McDermott and junior designated hitter Andrew Boujoukos each tallied two hits for Radnor.
