Joey ZettlemoyerSenior right-handed pitcher Joey Zettlemoyer (right), a Widener commit, worked six strong innings and freshman righty Adam Grintz worked a solid 7th inning to lead the Whippets to a win on Wednesday afternoon. Zettlemoyer scattered eight hits and did not walk a batter in picking up the win. Grintz recorded two strikeouts and a ground out to close out the game.

It was Henderson that got on the board first when sophomore shortstop Thomas Caufield laced the first pitch of the ball game to right field for a stand up double. Zettlemoyer worked around three hits in the inning allowing just one run when junior outfielder Zach Roberts plated Caufield with a one out single.

Nick CampanaDowningtown West answered right back with two runs in the bottom of the 1st to take a lead that they never relinquished. Senior shortstop Ryan Giordani singled to start the inning, stole second base, advanced to third on a single by Bucknell recruit JohnPaul Bell. Giordani scored on a sacrifice fly from junior catcher Nick Campana (right) and Bell crossed the plate on a ground out one batter later.

The Whippets sent eight batters to the plate in the bottom of the 2nd inning chasing Henderson starting pitcher Ryan Tench with four more runs. Henderson attempted to climb back in the game with two runs on three hits, but an insurance run by Downingtown West in the bottom of the frame provided plenty of breathing room for Grintz to cruise through the final frame.

Giordani (1-3, 2 SB, 2 R), Bell (2-2, SF, BB, RBI), Campana (2-3, 2B, SF, 2 RBI) and freshman DH Eric Grintz (2-3) led the Whippets' offense. Caufield (2-4, 2B, R), junior DH Stephen Pugliese (2-3, R) and junior outfielder Zach Roberts (2-3, R, RBI) fueled the Warriors.
