PErkiomen Valley 2, Spring-ford 0

A pitchers duel that lasted just an hour and thirty five minutes was decided in the 5th inning on the games only error. Perkiomen Valley used a leadoff single by senior catcher Matt Szczesny and a walk to Lehigh commit Joe Gorla to begin a rally in the top of the 4th inning. Third baseman Colin Buckwalter followed with a ground ball to third base that resulted in a an errant throw across the diamond scoring the game's first run and moving Gorla to third base. Vikings' pitcher Brock Helverson, a West Virginia commit, then executed a text book squeeze bunt to plate the second run of the inning and the final run of the game.

Brock HelversonHelverson, who pitched for Team New York in the 2016 PBR Future Games (see video below), was in command from the first pitch tossing a complete game shutout. The junior right-hander allowed just three hits and faced a batter with a runner in scoring position in just two innings. Helverson recorded seven strikeouts on the afternoon while walking two.

Spring-Ford got an equally impressive outing from junior Jake Kelchner, a St. John's commit. The left-hander also went the distance allowing just two hits while allowing no earned runs. Kelchner struck out nine and walked two in an efficient outing.

Of the five hits registered in the game, three were recorded by the game's two pitchers. Kelchner, a two-way prospect that plays outfield when not on the mound, went 2-for-3 with a double. Helverson was 1-for-2 and recorded the game's only RBI on the squeeze bunt in the 4th inning.
