High School Baseball Season Fires Up This Week

By Greg Williams
PA Director of Scouting

According to the calendar March 20 is the official first day of spring, but the weatherman isn't predicting spring like weather in much of Pennsylvania on that date or for much of this entire week. Independent schools kicked off their regular season schedule last week with a smattering of games and PIAA schools are scheduled to begin regular season play on March 22.

Assuming that the weather man is wrong, this week will provide a host of match-ups of ranked teams and highly regarded prospects. If the weather man is correct many of these games will have to be rescheduled.

Following is a look at some of the top match-ups beginning with March 22.

March 22

  • Pittsburgh Central Catholic (#13) vs. Episcopal Academy (#23)
    E
piscopal has had a shaky start at 0-2 and it doesn't get any easier with St. Joe's Prep, the Hill School and Central Catholic on the schedule this week.

  • Council Rock South (#14) vs. Central Bucks West
CR South looks to build on last year's AAAA State Runner-up performance.

  • Truman vs. Neumann-Goretti (#15)
First look at Arkansas commit, 1B Josh Ockimey from Neumann-Goretti.

  • Parkland (#16) vs. North Penn (#24)
SS/RHP Chris Rabasco, LHP Connor Higgins and OF Mason Nadeau among the talented underclassmen who will do battle in this early season match-up of ranked teams.

March 23

  • LaSalle College (#1) vs. Haverford School
LaSalle, the No. 1 ranked team in the state and defending AAAA State Champs takes on a 2-0 Haverford School team that is among those teams mentioned just outside the rankings in the PBR preseason poll.
