Inside Look: Top Uncommitted Senior Catchers in Pennsylvania

As the early signing period draws closer for the Class of 2018 a host of talented prospects across the state have yet to make an announcement on their college plans. Today we begin a look at some of the top uncommitted prospects in Pennsylvania starting with the top catchers still available in our PA Class of 2018 rankings

P.J. Heintz C / Bishop Shanahan, PA / 2018

5/8/17 Advanced defender with above average arm strength. Has shown in game pop times of 2.01-2.06. Solid right-handed hitter with strength in frame that could potentially hit for power at the next level.

 

 

Tommy Bramley C / 3B / Lower Dauphin , PA / 2018

6/13/17 5-foot-9, 170-pound left-handed hitter starts from a narrow, open stance and displays rhythmic actions through impact with present pop to the pull side.  Hands work well through the zone with a short path and he continues to display the ability to create back spin.  Registered an 86 mph bat exit velocity and went 4-for-7 with a triple and two walks in games action.  Triple nearly left the park in right field.  Athletic backstop ran a 6.93 60-yard dash and showcased pop times of 2.08-2.18 with 73 mph arm strength out of the crouch.

 

Hunter McGarvey C / RHP / La Salle, PA / 2018

8/4/16  Was a solid backstop behind the plate for team Mid-Atlantic at 2016 PBR Future Games. Quiet receiver and moved well behind plate. Had one of the best pop times during the event with a 1.96 pop. Hits from an athletic setup. Short path to ball with quick hands. Exit velocity of 85 mph. Quick feet with clean exchange and quick release behind the plate. Catcher velocity of 75 mph.

 

 

 

Josh Tesarck C / 1B / Pennsbury, PA / 2018

8/19/17 6-foot-3, 205-pound backstop with above average field presence. Has shown 79 mph arm strength and top pop times of 2.07-2.16. Physical right-handed hitter with some legnth to his swing. Has shown ability to drive the baseball to all fields with a bat exit velocity of 91 mph.

 

 

Dylan Swarmer C / 3B / Knoch, PA / 2018

2/12/17 6-foot, 185-pound right-handed hitter starts from a initiates his swing from a square stance with a leg-lift stride. Tends to spin off baseball leading to short time in the zone. Registered a 93 mph bat exit velocity and displayed some ability to back spin the baseball. Ran a 7.42 60-yard dash and registered pop times of 2.05-2.14 on throws of 71 mph from the crouch with some carry. Accurate thrower is a sound receiver who presents a soft wall when blocking.

 

Emmett McCauley C / 2B / Stroudsburg, PA / 2018

8/18/16 Solidly built 5-foot-10, 185-pound backstop flashed a clean transition and quick release with 70 mph arm strength out of the crouch (2.06-2.15 pop times). Right handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates his swing with a short lift-and-replace stride. Showcased some length to his swing with a bat exit velocity of 83 mph. Stays behind baseball well and displays strength in his lower half with the ability to get to full extension with regularity. Showcased some present pull-side power with a solid feel for the barrel.

 

Evan Fisher

Evan Fisher C / 1B / Council Rock South, PA / 2018

5/2/17  Intriguing left-handed hitter with solid defensive abilities. Showed good posture and balance with smooth load to the backside. Looked comfortable standing in against a mid-80s LHP and his hands worked when barreling a pitch to each side of the field his first two trips to the plate. Received well and controlled the game behind the plate, logging 2.12-2.22 pop times in between innings.

 

 

Hunter Hamlin C / RHP / North Penn, PA / 2018

8/17/17 5-foot-9, 190-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a short, lift-and-replace stride. A relatively late load leads to rushing to the hitting zone at times. Lower half works in conjunction well with the upper half.  Strong hip turn and quick hands lead to a bat exit velocity of 92 mph  with present gap power. The uncommitted senior continues to show above average defensive abilities with event best pop times of 1.98-2.08 on throws of 76 mph from the crouch.  Also displayed 81 mph arm strength across the diamond from third base. Impressed with receiving skills and vocal leadership during the course of bullpen session

 

Logan Vietmeier C / 3B / Montour, PA / 2018

7/26/17 6-foot 200-pound right-handed hitter sets up neutral and initiates swing with substantial knee-to-knee leg kick. An aggressive lower half weight shift and hip turn results in good separation.  Hands are loose and direct to baseball. There is balance and rhythm to swing and load. Leg kick resulted in some difficulty consistently being on time on this day. Mechanics and strength play to bat exit velocity of 90 mph. Defensively, glove hand is adequate with solid approach to framing. There is clean, quick transfer with short throwing motion and 76 mph arm strength resulting in pop times of 2.03-2.06.  

 

Josh Rich C / OF / Northeastern, PA / 2018

7/18/17 5-foot-9, 170-pound primary catcher played outfield during the course of two games showcasing solid routes to the baseball and above average arm strength in cutting down a runner at the plate from right field.  During defensive evaluations, displayed quick feet and a clean transition in registering pop time of 2.02-2.09 behind the plate. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-11 with a walk in game action while making several loud outs on barreled baseballs.

 

Luke Weigel C / 1B / Lampeter-Strasburg, PA / 2018

8/17/17 6-foot-3, 220-pound right-handed hitter showcased present pull side power and a bat exit velocity of 93 mph during a solid round of batting practice. Weigel starts from a square stance and incorporates a short stride and aggressive hip turn to initiate his swing. Went 2-for-9 with a double during game action over the weekend while making loud contact on several occasions. Continues to show progress in his development behind the plate turning in pop times of 2.01-2.10 on throws of 77 mph from the crouch.  Also shows capable actions around the bag at first base. Outgoing, vocal player that other players gravitate towards.
