Maryland tops Pennsylvania on Day One of Big 26 Classic

Pennsylvania fought back from an early 3-0 deficit to take a 6-4 lead to the 9th inning of game one of the 2016 Big 26 Baseball Classic on Friday night at First National Bank Field in Harrisburg, PA. Maryland however exploded for four runs in the 9th aided by the 5th error of the night by the Pennsylvania defense to win 8-6.

Pennsylvania was paced offensively by 2017 1B Colby Hiddeman (Twin Valley) who went 3-for-3 and 2017 2B Pete Vaccaro (Oley Valley) who went 1-2 with a double, a sacrifice fly and two runs driven in.

The three game series continues with games today and tomorrow.

Game One Highlights:

+ 2017 OF Derek Orndorff (Connellsville) walked twice, swiped a base and scored two runs out of the lead-off spot.
+ 2017 OF Curtis Robison went 1-for-2 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored in the three-hole.
+2017 RHP Andrew Mayhew (Pennridge) worked two solid innings yielding an unearned run and struck out two.
+ 2017 RHP Colin Kennedy (Hatboro-Horsham) worked two scoreless innings of relief allowing two hits and was in line to get the win until the Maryland rally.
+ 2018 RHP Tanner Esposito (Williamsport) worked two scoreless innings of relief and did not allow a hit while striking out three.
+ 2018 OF Luke Cantwell made the defensive play of the evening with an impressive sliding catch on the warning track in right field in the 6th inning.
