Open ID Showcase Analysis: Outfielders

The summer rush of PBR events in Pennsylvania and West Virginia kicked into high gear in June with the PA Top Prospect Games (June 17-18), Shenandoah Valley College Prospect Showcase (June 23) and the PA Underclass Games (June 24-25) all offering college coaches a glimpse at some 175 prospects in a short period of time.

This past week two Open Identification Showcases were held with an additional 75 prospects demonstrating their abilities. Over the course of the next several days we will be analyzing the prospects that performed by position at both events. Today we begin by taking a look at the outfielders in attendance.

Top Prospects

RHP/OF Jordan Fiedor (Hempfield Area), 2017

Jordan FiedorFiedor was one of the top prospects in attendance at the Western PA Open ID Showcase. The 5-foot-10, 170-pound sophomore has an athletic frame and displayed well above average throws from his outfield position at 86 mph. Fiedor ran a 7.01 60-yard dash and displayed the ability to drive the baseball to all fields from a slightly open stance during batting practice. The right-handed hitter utilizes a high hands load and creates strong barrel whip with a bat exit velocity of 93 mph. Fiedor completed his impressive day by sitting 83-85 out of a high 3/4 arm slot during his bullpen session. The righty also flashed a 73 mph split-change and a 72 mph slider in his arsenal. The two-way prospect will be a high follow moving forward in the Class of 2017.

OF/RHP Jack Herman (Eastern Regional, NJ), 2018

Jack HermanHerman impressed in all facets of the game, showing legitimate two-way abilities at a young age. The 5-foot-10, 155-pound prospect has an athletic frame and should continue to develop size and strength in the coming years. Herman displayed athletic actions defensively with good carry to throws of 86 mph from his outfield position. The right-handed hitter showcased an 86 mph bat exit velocity from a fluid right handed swing that produced consistent line drives during his round of batting practice. Herman showed developing power potential and loose hands that led to the ball jumping off his bat. The righty finished his day by sitting 80-82 from the mound while maintaining velocity out of the stretch. Herman also commanded an 11/5 breaking curveball at 66 mph and a 67 mph knuckle ball out of a high 3/4 arm slot.

Andrew Singer (Springside-Chestnut Hill), 2017

Andrew SingerSinger registered the two best 60-yard dash times of the Eastern PA Open ID Showcase at 6.62 and 6.65. The 5-foot-9, 155-pound sophomore's foot speed is evidenced in his athletic actions defensively. Singer displayed an accurate 78 mph arm from his outfield position and the ability to play the baseball on the move. The right-handed hitter showcased a line-drive approach at the plate from a slightly open stance with a high hands load. He demonstrated the ability to barrel the baseball to all fields with a short swing path and a bat exit velocity of 80 mph.


Best of the Rest (alphabetical)

Tyler Barnot (Bethel Park), 2016

Barnot is a 5-foot-10, 180-pound right-handed hitter that starts from a slightly open stance with a lift and replace stride foot. The junior displayed a line drive approach at the plate with a bat exit velocity of 80 mph. Barnot ran a 7.43 60-yard dash and showed an accurate 75 mph arm from the outfield.

Noah Brisach (Interboro), 2016

Brisach displayed a line drive approach with no stride from the right side of the plate. The 6-foot-1, 145-pound junior registered a bat exit velocity of 76 mph and ran a 7.09 60-yard dash. Brisach showcased athletic actions defensively with an accurate 72 mph arm from his outfield position.

Hunter Goshorn (Boiling Springs), 2016

Goshorn is a left-handed hitter that displayed a flat bat path through the hitting zone from a slightly open stance with a bat exit velocity of 77 mph. The 6-foot-2, 160-pound junior showed the ability to use all fields with a line drive approach during his round of batting practice. Goshorn ran a 7.50 60-yard dash and showcased an accurate 72 mph arm from his outfield position.

Ryan Grieco (Franklin Regional), 2015

Grieco ran a 7.09 60-yard dash and displayed an accurate 80 mph arm from his outfield position. The 5-foot-7, 150-pound left-handed hitter showcased very good tempo to his swing from a slightly open stance. Grieco registered a bat exit velocity of 78 mph and barreled the baseball routinely during a solid round of batting practice.

Connor Gurt (Palmyra), 2016

Gurt showed well in all facets of the game running one of the top 60-yard dash times of the day at 6.68. The 6-foot-1, 165-pound right-handed hitter has an athletic frame and showcased a bat exit velocity of 78 mph during a solid round of batting practice. Gurt displayed quick hands and a short swing path with a leg lift stride. The junior stays inside the baseball well and showed occasional gap power. Gurt showed athletic actions with an accurate 75 mph arm from his outfield position.

Jared Henry (Greensburg Salem), 2015

Henry showed well in all facets of the game. The 6-foot, 155-pound right-handed hitter displayed the ability to barrel the baseball frequently from a square stance with a high hands load. Henry registered a bat exit velocity of 75 mph and ran one of the top 60s of the day at 6.75. The uncommitted senior showed athletic actions in the outfield with an accurate 80 mph arm. Henry's foot speed and athleticism will be on display when he participates in the WV Top Prospect Games in August.

Josh Herring (Mechanicsburg Area), 2016

Herring is a 5-foot-10, 165-pound right-handed hitter that displayed strong barrel whip from a square stance with a high hands load. The junior barreled the baseball routinely with a bat exit velocity of 78 mph. Herring ran a 6.96 60-yard dash and showcased the ability to play the baseball on the move with an accurate 83 mph arm from his outfield position.

Eric Lane (Hatboro-Horsham), 2015

Lane showcased a well-rounded skill set on the day. The 5-foot-9, 175-pound left-handed hitter displayed good tempo to his swing with very quick hands. Lane has a quiet approach with no stride but creates barrel whip with a strong lower half. He registered a bat exit velocity of 79 mph and showed an accurate 76 mph arm from his outfield position. The uncommitted senior ran a 7.14 60-yard dash and completed his day by sitting 77-79 out of a 3/4 arm slot with some arm side run to his fastball. The lefty has a bit of hip coil in his delivery and pounded the strike zone with a 67 mph curveball and a 72 mph changeup as well.

Alex McLaughlin (Episcopal Academy), 2017

McLaughlin is a 6-foot, 170-pound right-handed hitter with a solid frame and the potential for power. He hits from a slightly open stance with good tempo to his swing. McLaughlin demonstrated the ability to stay inside the baseball during a solid round of batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 82 mph. The sophomore ran a 7.51 60-yard dash and displayed good carry on throws of 75 mph from the outfield.

Frankie Montecalvo (Bishop Guilfoyle), 2017

Montecalvo made an impression with his offensive abilities showcasing an 88 mph bat exit velocity from a square stance. The right-handed hitter utilized a toe tap stride and flat swing path through the hitting zone during a solid round of batting practice. Montecalvo showed athletic actions in the outfield with a 74 mph arm and ran a 7.06 60-yard dash.

RHP/OF Carson Rebel (Seton-LaSalle), 2015

Rebel is a primary pitcher that sat 78-80 out of a high 3/4 arm slot with a very quick arm. He works quickly and pounds the strike zone. The righty also displayed an 11/5 breaking curve ball with tight rotation and a 73 mph cutter that has late downward action. The 5-foot-11, 140-pound righty has room to add to his frame and could still see significant velocity gains. Rebel showcased a 78 mph arm from the outfield and ran a 7.28 60-yard dash. The right-handed hitter displayed the ability to barrel the baseball to all fields out of an open stance with a bat exit velocity of 82 mph.

Cole Reese (Greensburg Central Catholic), 2015

Reese displayed athletic actions defensively with an accurate 83 mph throwing arm. The 6-foot, 185-pound uncommitted senior ran a 6.81 60-yard dash and displayed the ability to shoot the baseball the opposite way from the left side of the plate. Reese has a flat swing path and allows the baseball to get deep in the zone with a bat exit velocity of 76 mph.

Carter Swegman (Hampton), 2015

Swegman is a 5-foot-6, 125-pound left-handed hitter that showcased a line drive approach at the plate from a slightly open stance. The lefty barreled the baseball routinely to all fields and registered a bat exit velocity of 72 mph. Swegman ran a 7.18 60-yard dash and displayed athletic actions in defensively with an accurate 73 mph arm.

Jake Sweeney (Carlisle), 2016

Sweeney is a 5-foot-11, 190-pound right-handed hitter that showcased some raw pop in his swing from a square stance with a high hands load. He has a tendency to pull the bat head through the zone a bit but creates an 82 mph bat exit velocity with a strong lower half. Sweeney ran a 7.30 60-yard dash and displayed a 79 mph arm from the outfield. The righty sat 77-78 from a high 3/4 arm slot while also flashing a 67 mph curveball with slurve action and a 71 mph cutter.

Bo Williams (Bethel Park), 2016

Williams starts from a slightly closed stance and utilizes a lift and replace stride foot. The right-handed hitter demonstrated the ability to barrel the baseball frequently to all fields with a bat exit velocity of 88 mph. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound junior ran a 7.24 60-yard dash and showcased an accurate 74 mph arm from his outfield position.

Jake Yarnell (Cochranton), 2015

Yarnell is a 5-foot-5, 150-pound left-handed hitter that hits from a slightly closed stance with no stride. He has a quiet approach at the plate and displayed the ability to use all fields with a bat exit velocity of 67 mph. Yarnell ran a 7.77 60-yard dash and showcased an accurate 66 mph arm from his outfield position.

Lucas Scheidemantel (Beaver Area), 2015

The 5-foot-10, 185-pound right-handed hitter showcased a bat exit velocity of 79 mph from a high hands load. Scheidemantel displayed the ability to barrel the baseball routinely to all fields with a lift and replace stride foot. The uncommitted senior showed good straight line carry on throws of 77 mph from his outfield position.
