Pitcher Analysis: Week 2 of Fall College Prospect Program

Week two of the Fall College Prospect Program showcased 13 pitchers over two days' time. Following is a look at the top performances on the hill at Temple University (8/24) and Widener University (8/25).

Top Arms

Zach Guth1. LHP Zach Guth, Franklin HS, Class of 2015

The 6-foot-3, 165-pound lefty sat 84-86 while touching 87 mph. The lefty recorded eight of his nine outs by strikeout and showed significant run to his fastball and changeup. Guth throws the changeup at fastball arm speed and showed command of a 72-75 mph 1/7 breaking curveball as well. He has an athletic frame and room to add significantly to his frame.

2. LHP Billy Phillips, St. Mark's HS (DE), Class of 2015

Phillips made the trip from Wilmington, DE and impressed with a fastball that sat 84-86. Phillips utilizes an overhead rocker delivery and throws from a high 3/4 arm slot. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound lefty displayed a 72 mph 1/7 breaking curveball, a 78 mph slider and an 80 mph cutter among the arsenal of complimentary pitches in his arsenal.

3. RHP Tim Brennan, Holy Ghost Prep, Class of 2015

Brennan is a 6-foot-2, 170-pound righty that has polished mechanics and fluid rhythm in his delivery. Brennan sat 81-84 out of a high 3/4 arm slot and pounded the strike zone with significant arm side run. He showed a solid mix of complimentary pitches, utilizing a 75 mph changeup at near fastball arm speed and a 73 mph 11/5 breaking curveball in addition to his fastball. Brennan has an athletic frame that suggests additional velocity is on the way.

4. RHP Stephen Muscovitch, Owen J. Roberts HS, Class of 2014

Muscovitch was one of the more intriguing arms on the weekend. The 6-foot-4, 190-pound righty has good rhythm to his delivery and showed the ability to command three pitches for strikes. He sat 81-83 with some arm side run to his fastball out of a high 3/4 arm slot. Muscovitch also showcased a 73 mph changeup at near fastball arm speed and a solid 74 mph slider that he used often to record four strikeouts in his three innings of work.

5. RHP Eric Ligda, Avon Grove HS, Class of 2014

Ligda is a 6-foot-5, 185-pound righty that sat 82-85 out of a 3/4 arm slot with arm side run to his fastball. He showcased a 72 mph 11/5 breaking curveball and a 73 mph splitter that he throws routinely for strikes. Ligda worked three innings, yielding three hits while striking out three.

Best of the Rest

RHP Charles Bears, Friends' Central School, Class of 2014

Bears is a 6-foot-2, 200-pound righty with a long-armed throwing motion. He sat 74-75 mph with a 69 mph 10/4 breaking curveball and a 64 mph changeup thrown at near fastball arm speed. Bears pounded the strike zone and effectively mixed his pitches to get outs.

RHP Joe Boggs, Oxford Area HS, Class of 2015

Boggs is a 6-foot-1, 165-pound righty that sat 77-79 out of a high 3/4 arm slot. He has a fluid delivery and appears to have more velocity in store. Boggs also displayed an effective 71 mph 11/5 breaking curveball that he throws out of the same arm slot with good arm speed. Boggs worked three scoreless innings in game action with three strikeouts.

RHP Nick Bulisky, Garnet Valley HS, Class of 2014

Bulisky is a 5-foot-11, 170-pound righty that sat 78-80 out of a high 3/4 arm slot. He showcased an 11/5 breaking 67 mph curveball and a 70 mph changeup as well. Bulisky yielded three hits in his three innings of work while registering three strikeouts.

RHP Nicky D'Amore, Neumann-Goretti HS, Class of 2016

D'Amore is a 6-foot, 180-pound righty that sat 80-82 in his one inning of work on the mound. He showed a quick arm and pounded the strike zone from a high 3/4 arm slot. D'Amore is a talented athlete that shows promise as a two-way prospect in this class.

RHP Nick Lorenz, East Juniata HS, Class of 2014

Lorenz is an athletic 6-foot-1, 185-pound righty that sat 81-83 out of a high 3/4 arm slot. The two-way prospect also showcased command of a 73 mph 11/5 breaking curveball. Lorenz is a sleeper in this class, having not thrown from the mound since May.

RHP Stephen McKee, Cedar Cliff HS, Class of 2014

McKee sat 79-82 out of a high 3/4 arm slot with command of a 70 mph 11/5 breaking curveball. The 6-foot, 180-pound righty worked three innings, effectively mixing the two pitches, while recording three strikeouts.

RHP Joe Molettiere, Pennridge HS, Class of 2015

Molettiere is a 6-foot-2, 160-pound righty that has a big upside. We saw him sitting 86-88 at the PA Underclass Games in July. Molettiere sat 82-84 in his one inning of work out of a 3/4 arm slot with solid arm side run to his fastball. He commanded a 75 mph changeup at fastball arm speed and displayed the makings an out pitch in a 12/6 curveball at 76 mph.

RHP C.J. Pruitt, Sun Valley HS, Class of 2015

Pruitt is a 6-foot-1, 175-pound righty that showcased a fastball that sat 82-84 while touching 85 mph. He struggled with command of his 72 mph changeup, 68 mph curveball and 67 mph knuckle ball. Pruitt showed good life to his fastball early, but went away from the pitch in subsequent innings.
