Preseason All-State Showcase: Corner Infield Analysis (Part One)

A total of 23 corner infielders showcased their abilities on Day One of the Preseason All-State Showcase. In Part One of our evaluations we will take a look at half of the group, with the remaining 10 prospects to be reviewed in Part Two.

Austin Baker
, Governor Mifflin HS, Class of 2017

Baker is a solidly built 6-foot, 185-pound 1B that had an impressive showing for a player that has yet to play his first high school game. The left-handed hitter showed legitimate power potential from a square stance with balance throughout his swing. Baker barreled the baseball consistently and showed the ability to drive the baseball to all fields with a bat exit velocity of 84 mph. Baker will need to continue to work on his agility and arm strength (73 mph) defensively. He registered a 4.58 home-to-1B time.

Billy Brittingham, Germantown Academy, Class of 2016
Brittingham impressed with a very strong round of batting practice. The lefty showcased a very fluid swing with loose hands and a solid lower half. He barreled the baseball consistently and showed the ability to drive the baseball to all fields. The 5-foot-11, 205 pound sophomore registered a 4.45 home-to-1B time and a bat exit velocity of 87 mph. Brittingham has a soft glove hand and moves well around the bag. He will need to work to strengthen his 69 mph throwing arm.

Willie Burger, Lancaster Catholic, Class of 2015
Burger showed why he is the highest ranked, uncommitted junior in Pennsylvania with a solid performance over two days. The multi-talented prospect showcased quick feet, a soft glove hand and a strong arm from 3B (84 mph). After turning in a 4.42 home-to-1B time, Burger showcased a 91 mph bat exit velocity during an impressive round of batting practice. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound right-handed hitter displayed a balanced swing with explosive hands and hips that allowed him to drive the baseball repeatedly with authority.

Alex Burman, Episcopal Academy, Class of 2016
Burman is a 5-foot-11, 185-pound left-handed hitter that has good rhythm to his swing and little wasted movement. He utilizes a square stance and a toe tap trigger with a high hands load. Burman barreled the baseball routinely and showed the ability to drive the baseball to all fields with an 84 mph bat exit velocity. Burman registered a 4.55 home-to-1B time and showed good footwork around the bag at 1B. The lefty displayed a 74 mph arm across the diamond and a soft glove hand.

Ben Burman, Episcopal Academy, Class of 2015
Burman showcased well at two positions over the span of the two day event. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound right-handed hitter utilized a square stance and a quiet lower half in a solid round of batting practice. Burman consistently barreled the baseball with an 87 mph bat exit velocity while showing the ability to use all fields. He registered a 4.69 home-to-1B time and displayed one of the top infield arms of the event with throws of 84 mph across the diamond from 3B.

Frankie Fraschetti, Neshannock HS, Class of 2016
The 5-foot-11, 185-pound sophomore showed good feet and a fluid transition at 3B with accurate throws of 79 mph across the diamond. Fraschetti hits from a square stance with a toe tap trigger and good rhythm throughout his swing. The right-handed hitter barreled the baseball to all fields and demonstrated some gap power with a bat exit velocity of 86 mph. Fraschetti also registered a 4.36 home-to-1B time.

Kyle Glouner, Upper Dauphin HS, Class of 2016
Glouner showed good mobility around the bag at 1B and a 77 mph across the diamond. The 6-foot, 175-pound sophomore registered a 4.67 home-to-1B time and turned in a solid round of batting practice. Glouner hits from a slightly open stance with a high hands load. He used a strong lower half to generate barrel whip and a bat exit velocity of 87 mph.

Owen Goryl, Phoenixville Area HS, Class of 2015
Goryl is a 6-foot-1, 180-pound 3B that registered a 4.52 home-to-1B time and showed a 72 mph arm across the infield. The right-handed hitter displayed a strong lower half out of a slightly open stance. Goryl uses very little stride, but creates an 82 mph bat exit velocity with a strong hip turn. He barreled the baseball consistently and showcased some gap power potential.

Garett Goslaw, Butler Area HS, Class of 2015
Goslaw showed his good feet with a 4.02 home-to-1B time and plenty of range at 3B. The 5-foot-10, 170-pound junior displayed a soft glove hand, the ability to play through the baseball and a 75 mph arm across the diamond from 3B. Goslaw uses a leg lift trigger to create barrel whip from the right side. He showed good balance in his swing and some life in his bat with a very solid bat exit velocity of 90 mph.

Jacob Haberle, Gateway HS, Class of 2016
Haberle is a physical 6-foot-2, 225-pound prospect that showed capable glove work at 1B and a 79 mph arm across the diamond. Haberle moves fairly well for a player his size, turning in a 4.45 home-to-1B time. The right-handed hitter showcased one of the top bat exit velocities of the event at 93 mph. He hits from a slightly open stance with a toe tap trigger and extremely quick hands. Haberle wore out the middle of the field in his round of batting practice and showed legitimate power potential.

Connor Hood, Susquehannock HS, Class of 2016
Hood was one of the most impressive prospects in attendance. The 6-foot, 165-pound 3B has a very athletic frame that has room to fill out. He showed fluid actions defensively with a solid 82 mph arm across the diamond. Hood registered a 4.42 home-to-1B time and turned in a very solid round of batting practice. The right-handed hitters starts from a wide stance and uses a lift and replace stride foot. He showcase a flat bat path and a bat exit velocity of 86 mph with excellent rhythm to his swing.

Steve Moppert, Penncrest HS, Class of 2015
Moppert is a two-way prospect that displayed the ability to throw from several arm angles from 3B. The 6-foot-1, 165-pound junior has a bit of a long-arm throwing motion, but he displayed consistent accurate throws of 79 mph across the diamond. Moppert barrel the baseball frequently from a slightly open stance with a bat exit velocity of 85 mph. The right-handed hitter displayed a flat bat path through the hitting zone and registered a 4.58 home-to-1B time.

Vince Ruggieri, North Hills HS, Class of 2015
Ruggieri demonstrated good balance and the ability to use all fields from a square stance. The 5-foot-10, 160-pound right-handed hitter registered a 4.22 home-to-1B time and a bat exit velocity of 84 mph. Ruggieri demonstrated the ability to make all plays at 3B with a quick release, but will need to improve his arm strength (72 mph) moving forward to remain at the hot corner.
