Preseason Preview: MAST Community Charter School (District 12)

By Greg Williams
PA Director of Scouting

The MAST Community Charter School Panthers got to the District 12 AA semi-finals last year and have a goal of getting further in 2013. Not bad for a program that is just now dressing seniors who have been a part of the school for four years. MAST didn't field a varsity baseball team until 2010. The Panthers had a 6-12 overall record and return seven starters along with three pitchers from a year ago. Head Coach Derrick Savage feels his team's experience, pitching and leadership will be points of strength in the new year. Following is a look at members of the roster who are likely to make significant contributions in 2013.

Class of 2013

  • RHP/1B Rob Sweeney, 5-foot-11, 210-pounds - Three time All-League performer who hit .458 in 2012.
  • C/3B Harry Hancock, 6-foot-1, 210-pounds - Three year starter who hit .348 a year ago.

Class of 2014

  • SS Russell Langdon, 5-foot-9, 160-pounds - Honorable-Mention All-League in 2012 after hitting .512.
  • 3B Joe Zingo - 6-foot-2, 200-pounds - Hit .341 in 2012.
  • C Sean Wenclawiak, 5-foot-10, 225-pounds - Hit .345 last season.

Class of 2015

  • RHP/1B Bryan Kaelin - 6-foot-2, 215-pounds - Went 4-2 in 44 innings of work in 2012.
  • RHP/2B Ryan Conner - 5-foot-10, 165-pounds - Went 1-2 on the mound last season in 16.1 innings.
