Preseason Preview: Minersville Battling Miners (District 11)

FritzMinersville comes of a 15-7 campaign in 2012 which was good enough for a 2nd place conference finish and a District 11 semifinal birth. The Battling Miners return six starters in 2013 along with two pitchers to make a run at the conference and district titles.

Coach Del Hauch feels his team's experience will be key to their overall success in 2013. He also points to a his team's defense as an area that needs to improve over a year ago in order for the team to reach new heights. Following are the players who are likely to play major roles for the Battling Miners this season.

Class of 2013:

  • RHP/OF Ryan King - 5'10", 165-pound senior went 6-2 on the hill in 2012.
  • 2B Isaac Melochick - 6'0", 160-pound infielder hit .329 a year ago.
  • 1B James Brophy - 6'2", 250-pound left-handed hitter knocked in 29 and hit .300 last season.

Class of 2014:

  • SS/3B/RHP Aaron Fritz - 5'11", 180-pound junior went 2-0 on the mound and hit .419 in 2012.
  • C Luke Heffrin - 5'11", 180-pound backstop hit .290 and threw out seven runners last year.

Class of 2015:

  • IF Collin Hashin - 5'9", 150-pound sophomore will see time in the infield.
