Preseason Preview: Strath Haven HS (District 1)

By Greg Williams
PA Director of Scouting

The Strath Haven Panthers went 11-8 in 2012 finishing at 9-7 and in 6th place in the Central League. With six returning starters and four pitchers with varsity experience Coach Brian Fili feels that this year's roster should be capable of scoring some runs. The Panthers will enter the 2013 campaign with an experienced roster, solid defense and some good arms on the mound. What they lack is a true staff ace. Following is a look at the players who are likely to make an impact in the Panthers lineup this season.

Class of 2013

  • 2B/SS David Splain, 5-foot-8, 150-pounds - strong defensive middle infielder who hit .354 in 2012.
  • IF/RHP Donovan Davis, 6-foot, 190-pounds - went 4-1 as a starting pitcher a year ago and hit .310.
  • RHP Jack Welden, 6-foot-1, 170-pounds - finished 2012 with a 1.05 ERA in a relief role.
  • OF Rob Straff, 5-foot-10, 150-pounds - hit .292 and was second on the team in walks last year.

MohollenClass of 2014

  • C Kevin Mohollen, 5-foot-11, 185-pounds - hit .354 in 2012 and represented Team Pennsylvania in the first annual Big 26 series with Maryland. Mohollen is ranked No. 36 in the PA Class of 2014 and has been a Carpenter Cup participant the past two years. Mohollen has been drawing a lot of Division I interest and will be looked to for continued run production in the Panthers lineup.
  • 1B/DH/RHP Caedon Saltis, 5-foot-11, 220-pounds - provides power in the middle of the Panthers order.

Class of 2015

  • OF James Kantner - will see his first Varsity action in 2013. Kantner is a strong defensive outfielder with good speed.
