Q&A With Susquehanna University Commit Alex Salesky

By Greg Williams
PA Director of Scouting

Alex SaleskyAlex Salesky is a 5-foot-10, 170-pound C/3B whose stock rose during the course of the summer and fall. Ranked No. 221 in the PA Class of 2014, Salesky hit .167 in limited opportunities for a strong Wilson (West Lawn) HS squad in 2013. The talented left-handed hitter made up for his lack of spring opportunities by spending his summer and fall showcasing his talents for college coaches all over the east coast. His hard work paid off as Salesky announced his commitment this week to Susquehanna University.

With the graduation of a number of talented starters from last year's 13-7 team, Salesky is likely to find every day duties in the Wilson lineup come 2014. The future Crusader spoke with Prep Baseball Report about his college selection and the process that led to his final decision.

PBR:  Where have you decided to attend college and why did you make this choice?

Salesky: I have chosen to attend Susquehanna University because it just felt like the place I belong. Everything about it I really liked and it just felt like a home to me.

PBR:  What other schools were you considering?

Salesky: I was also considering Neumann University, Widener University, Misericordia University, La Roche College, Bloomsburg University and Hood College (MD).

PBR:  Was distance from home a factor in your decision?

Salesky: No, but because SU is close it’s definitely a good thing.

PBR:  Where did the coaches first see you?  How did your relationship develop with their coaching staff?

Salesky: They first saw me at the PBR Top Prospect games in June at Bucknell. I was contacted, I went to one of their camps, they expressed their interest and we talked very often and the relationship grew through that.

PBR:  What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Salesky: They expect me to compete, and possibly move around the diamond.

PBR:  What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that will help your team?

Salesky: I feel my hard work and leadership ability are my biggest strengths and as a catcher, you need to be a leader, and work the hardest on the field so it will be a benefit for my team.

PBR:  Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most memorable experience from this past summer?

Salesky: I play for the West Lawn Owls legion team, and the 17u B2B Bombers as well. My most memorable moment was the whole weekend at ECU when we didn’t have our 2, 3, or 4 hitters, and almost no pitching and we went 4-0 and got the #1 seed out of 54 teams.

PBR:  What is your current GPA?

Salesky: My current GPA is 3.6 out of 4.0.

PBR:  Now that you have your commitment out of the way, what are your goals both individually and for the team going into your senior season?

Salesky: The biggest thing I need is to get stronger, and that will help my performance.

PBR: How did Prep Baseball Report aid you in gaining exposure as a potential college baseball recruit?

Salesky: PBR was absolutely huge in helping me gain exposure. I went to and was invited to many events. Susquehanna saw me at a PBR event and I don't know if that would have happened otherwise. I also was asked to play with the Bombers after they saw me at a PBR event.
