The pitching rotation for Team Pensylvania at this week's Under Armour Midwest Future Games has been announced. Team Pennsylvania will play all three of its games at the University of Illinois.
Brendan McKay is the only lefty on the staff, but he is a good one. McKay is the No. 2 ranked player in the Class of 2014. Brendan is coming off another stellar high school season in which he was the ace of the Blackhawk HS staff going 9-1. McKay, at 6-foot-1 and 185-pounds is now 16-1 in his high school career. He sits 85-86 with his fast ball and has a dominant curve ball to go with it. The left hander has outstanding control and loves to pitch in big games.
Brandon Birkhead, the No. 9 ranked player in the Class of 2014, will follow McKay to the hill on Saturday . At 6-foot-4, and 215-pounds, the Pennsbury HS right hander has the physical size to be a power pitcher. Last summer Birkhead led the rotation for the Northeast team in the first annual Underclass All-American Games in Orlando, FL.
Dominic Cuoci, the No. 5 ranked player in the Class of 2014, will spend time on the mound when he is not dipslaying his abilities at shortstop. At 6-foot-3, 195-pounds, Cuoci has the ability to be a power pitcher when not anchoring the middle of the infield defense. Cuoci will get the start on the hill against Team Illinois.
Matt Gordon, the No. 25 ranked player in the Class of 2014, will get the start against Team Missouri. Gordon has excellent command of the strike zone and pounds the strike zone. The 6-3, 215-pound right hander went 7-0 this past spring for Grove City HS.
Eric Ligda, the No. 30 ranked player in the Class of 2014 has a huge upside. Ligda recently won the home run derby at the Triple Crown Sports USBC Championships in Georgia. Ligda tops out in the mid-80's with a variety of off speed pitches that he uses very effectively.
Jamie Switalski, the No. 31 ranked player in the Class of 2014 will see action on the hill in the first two games. Switalski is a well rounded player who has the ability to play a number of defensive positions while hitting for average and power.
