Underclass Games Analysis: Black Team

The Black Team showcased a number of quality arms at the PA Underclass Games July 29 & 30 at Misericordia University. Following is an analysis of the prospects that participated as members of the Black Team.

C/3B Ben Burman, Episcopal Academy, Class of 2015

Burman is a 6-foot-1, 190-pound prospect that went 5-for-7 with a double and two RBI in game action over two days. The right-handed hitter displayed a short swing path, with a strong lower half and fluid rhythm to his swing. Burman displayed pop times of 2.12-2.19 on throws of 76 mph from the crouch. He gains ground well and showed good straight line carry to his throws.

LHP/1B Zach Guth, Franklin HS, Class of 2015

Guth showed capable actions at first base and a fluid swing with an 83 mph bat exit velocity at the plate. It was on the mound that he excelled. The 6-foot-3, 165-pound lefty has plenty of room to add to his frame making his current 83-85 mph velocity that much more interesting. Guth displayed run and cut to his fastball at various times touching 86 mph early. He also showed feel for a 74 mph curveball and a 74 mph changeup.

C/1B R.J. Harris, McKeesport HS, Class of 2016

Harris is a 6-foot-1, 160-pound prospect that should continue to add to his athletic frame in the coming years. The right-handed hitter utilized a slightly open stance, with a short swing path to consistently barrel the baseball during a solid round of batting practice. Harris went 2-for-8 in game play and displayed a bat exit velocity of 80 mph.

RHP/2B Collin Liberatore, Greensburg Central Catholic HS, Class of 2015

Liberatore showed well in all facets of the game, but was especially impressive on the mound. The 6-foot-2, 165-pound righty utilized a plus changeup at 70 mph to repeatedly get outs. Liberatore works from a high 3/4 arm slot and sits 80-82 with his fastball. His changeup is thrown at fastball arm speed and has late downward action. With his athletic frame it is easy to envision Liberatore adding significant velocity in the near future.

OF/RHP Zach Moll, Northern Lehigh HS, Class of 2015

Moll is a 5-foot-9, 155-pound prospect that utilizes an open stance with a short, line drive approach at the plate. He went 2-for-4 with a double on day two and showcased a bat exit velocity of 79 mph. Moll displayed an accurate arm from the outfield and athletic actions. He showed the ability to play through the baseball and straight line carry on throws of 76 mph. 

OF Mason Nadeau, North Penn HS, Class of 2016

Nadeau is a prototypical center fielder. He runs very well, 4.28 on a ground ball, and takes solid routes to the baseball. His 78 mph arm from the outfield is accurate and should only improve as he continues to add to his athletic 5-foot-9, 150-pound frame. The lefty hitter, has a short stroke with little wasted movement. Nadeau utilized a flat swing path to barrel the baseball consistently with a bat exit velocity of 79 mph. He went 2-for-5 with a triple on day two of the event, showcasing his foot speed on a ball in the gap that he legged into a triple.

SS/RHP Chris Rabasco, Parkland HS, Class of 2015

Rabasco is a 5-foot-11, 180-pound prospect that showcased as a pitcher only at the event. The righty showcased a power arm, sitting 86-88 with some arm side run to his fastball. Rabasco also showcased a two-seamer that had sink at 82-84. While pitching is not Rabasco's primary position, the No. 20 ranked player in the PA Class of 2015, showed why his two-way abilities will make him a coveted prospect in this class.

3B/C Dutch Reardon, Plymouth Whitemarsh HS, Class of 2016

Reardon is a 6-foot-2, 185-pound prospect with an athletic frame and a big upside. The left-handed hitter showed a fluid swing and the ability to stay inside the baseball during batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 84 mph. Reardon went 1-for-3 with a run scored in game action on day one of the event. Reardon showed capable actions at 3B with a 76 mph throwing arm across the diamond. As he continues to develop physically, Reardon will be a prospect to follow in this class.

2B/RHP Richie Serignese, Neshannock HS, Class of 2016

Serignese showed well in all facets of the game. The 5-foot-9, 150-pound prospect utilized a square stance with no stride to produce consistent line drives in batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 79 mph. He went 2-for-4 with a double on day two of the event with a run scored. Serignese topped at 76 mph from the mound with command of a quality 66 mph curveball in his work on the mound. 

Casey VincentRHP/SS Casey Vincent, Eisenhower HS, Class of 2016

Vincent impressed on day one of the event sitting 83-85 on the mound with command of a 72 mph curveball. The 5-foot-11, 160-pound left-handed hitter went 4-for-8 with a double in game play and played sound defensively at shortstop. Vincent showcased an 82 mph bat exit velocity and a 75 mph arm across the diamond a day after throwing three innings in game action. The No. 8 ranked prospect in the PA Class of 2016 earned MVP honors for the Black team as a result of his solid two-way performance over two days.
