Bergner Chases Gold, Knowledge With Team USA

After winning a gold medal with Team USA’s 18U squad as an underclassman in 2014, RHP Austin Bergner (Windermere Prep, FL) is ready to make a run for another. Now a rising senior, Bergner returned to the Tournament of Stars this summer and has made it through to the 28-man roster. If he makes the final round of cuts in August, he’ll head overseas to Japan for the WBSC World Cup in Osaka. But there’s more to it than just a gold medal for Bergner. He relishes the experience and opportunity to advance his game, learning from coaches and being challenged by some of the country’s top hitters.

“It’s been enjoyable,” Bergner said. “USA has definitely been the most fun because there’s a lot of things I take away from the pitching guys there and I always look forward going to that event and learning a lot. Just being open to new stuff and seeing what coaches are talking about these days.”
