COMEBACK OF THE DAY

EDWARDSVILLE

Things looked very bleak at Tom Pile Field for No. 11 Alton (30-6) on Thursday. Quincy’s Drake Green had totally handcuffed the Redbirds through six innings, allowing just four hits. Trailing 3-0 as the game moved to the bottom of the seventh, Alton’s Aaron Bonnell hammered a solo-shot to leadoff the bottom of the seventh. Drake Hampton followed with a double. Steve Nguyen walked and Carter Hayden reached on a Blue Devil miscue, scoring Hampton. On the play Nguyen and Hayden, moved up to second and third. Jake Skrabacz ripped a single to left scoring Nguyen with the tying run and when the ball was booted by the Blue Devil left fielder, Hayden danced home with the game-winner. Alton 4. Quincy 3.

No. 19 Cary-Grove (23-8-2) outlasted Barrington 1-0 in nine grueling innings and won in walk-off fashion when Wyatt Mascarella was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Trojan ace Larkin Hanselmann (10-0) went the distance allowing four hits with seven strikeouts. Barrington bows out at 24-11.
