In the Box: Overuse of Technology Can Lead to Robotic Hitters

By Kevin Wilson

The technology at our disposal is amazing nowadays.

But when it comes to baseball, more specifically analyzing swings, it has led us to a generation of “gurus” and kids fretting about the smallest of things in search of that perfect swing.

The age of technology has taken many amateur players away from the “feel” part of the swing and into overdrive with “over analyzing” every swing they take.

Today a lot of instructors and players are obsessed with the bat angles, stride lengths and bat paths of their swings.  They study it to be an exact science and micro-manage so many things.  They take a look at every single swing they take and try to find solutions to the “problems” they may be having.

This has caused a generation of robotic swingers and hitters who have a fear of failure and obsessed with over-analyzing their swings.  They lack the ability to feel a lot of what they are doing.  They also lack the ability to correct things on their own without having to look into an iPad or computer screen.
