Iowa Draft Preview

By Rob Allison and Nathan Rode

The 2016 Major League Draft takes place June 9-11. In advance of the draft, Prep Baseball Report is posting a summary of each state in the coverage area with scouting reports on the top high school draft prospects.

LHP A.J. Puk honed his skills in three years with the Florida Gators, but was a known commodity out of high school in Iowa. While he could be the top pick in this year’s draft, another Iowa southpaw could land in the top 10 rounds in LHP Spencer Van Scoyoc (Cedar Rapids Jefferson HS, IA). He has been on the prospect radar for some time, participating in the Area Code Underclass Games as a rising junior and then making the rounds this summer. He gives the state a Top 100-caliber high school player for the third time in four years.
