Kansas Draft Preview

By Nathan Rode and Shon Plack

The 2016 Major League Draft takes place June 9-11. In advance of the draft, Prep Baseball Report is posting a summary of each state in the coverage area with scouting reports on the top high school draft prospects.

Kansas has had just four high school prospects picked in the first round in draft history, the last being OF Bubba Starling in 2011. In 2016, there could be two in RHP Riley Pint (St. Thomas Aquinas HS, KS) and LHP Joey Wentz (Shawnee Mission East HS, KS), plus another potential early-round pick in SS Nonie Williams (Turner HS, KS). The Kansas City area was a popular destination for scouts this spring with dozens routinely showing up to Pint and Wentz starts. While much of the focus was on them, and deservedly so, Kansas’ 2016 class has tremendous depth with several players that could be top prospects out of college.

2. Riley Pint, RHP, St. Thomas Aquinas HS, KS
Pint has an athletic, projectable frame at 6-foot-3, 180 pounds. His lightning-quick arm produces a fastball that sat 96-99 mph this spring and routinely hit triple digits.
