Massachusetts Spotlight Game: Exeter vs Dover
In a match-up of two of the top teams in Division 1, Exeter (13-0) defeated Dover (11-4) 5-4 to remain undefeated. Both Exeter and Dover have teams centered around division one college prospects, and many of them impressed on the day.
Both teams started off hot, as the score was 2-1 Exeter after one inning.
However, Exeter starting pitcher, Cody Morissette (Boston College commit,) settled in and did not allow a run for the next five innings.
He received run support from 2018 first baseman Tom Polhemus, who hit a solo home run in the bottom of the third.
Exeter took a 4-1 lead entering the 7th inning, but things got interesting with two outs in the top half. Four consecutive hits by Dover tied the game up at 4.
Morissette was able to stop the bleeding and keep the game tied in the bottom of the 7th.
Kyle Maurice (UMass Lowell commit) led off with a single and was run for by Nate Verge.
Verge eventually came around to score on a walk off sacrifice fly by Sean Lavery to give Exeter the 5-4 win.
