“What I like about it,” Bob Kennedy said, “is that it’s a challenge.”

No doubt about it, Smoky Hill has one. Actually, competing in the Centennial League, easily Colorado’s best group, comes with all kinds of challenges. And the Buffaloes baseball team, headed by Kennedy, now 48 and in his 18th year at the Aurora school (third in command of the program), runs into them regularly.

Tabbed as No. 50 in Prep Baseball Report Colorado’s Top 50 preseason teams regardless of classification heading into the 2017 season, Smoky Hill hopes to make a play for the 32-team district playoff field in May and is in search of its first advancement to the double-elimination rounds since 2005.
