New England Insider: Uncommitted Underclass Spotlight - Jack Rich, 3B/RHP

Name: Jack Rich
Position: 3B/RHP
School: Wilcox Tech
Summer Ball: Meriden American Legion
Class: 2017
Ranked: 129th in New England's 2017 class

Scouting Report: At 5-foot-11, 180-pounds the frame is strong, has good shoulders and legs to him, his hands and wrists are very strong. Hits from the left side, the setup is balanced, front foot is slightly open. Hands are set above the shoulders and back elbow extended out. The path to the ball is level, hands go straight across his chest, has a classic line drive approach. Weight transfers to front side, at times leaks a bit too much. The tee exit velocity was 89 mph, bat speed is plus. In the field showed an arm of 72 mph across the diamond, arm action is clean and short on the backside. Prep steps are good, fielded ball out front, needs to keep his feet moving towards his target bit more. Off the mound, the delivery is sound and simple, the direction is good. Fastball was 75-76 mph, pounded it to both sides of the plate. The breaking ball showed good depth with tight spin at 65-67 mph. Changeup was at 67-70 mph. Jack can help off the mound. I project him to be at third or second, with the ability to really handle the bat. Definite guy to follow.
